... I hate to be a critic, (But if I don't say anything, it will be stick in my head all day) but if Soarin got kicked out of the Wonderbolts due to being overweight, shouldn't he be bigger than he is here?

A: This is several weeks after he got kicked out, and since then he's been trying to eat better and exercise. So he wouldn't be as fat as he was at the time he was bounced from the Wonderbolts.
B: Overweight for a normal pony isn't quite the same as overweight for an elite athletic stunt flying squad.
As I've said in other comments, Soarin was never meant to be envisioned as morbidly obese, I envisioned him kind of like major league ball players when they're late in their career. Still in good shape compared to someone who works a desk job, for example, but getting kinda paunchy and soft around the middle as the sports star lifestyle catches up to them. Think Babe Ruth or Pete Rose in his later days.

Ah, now I understand. I didn't envision him as "Morbidly obese," and I am sorry if I implied that. I just was surprised that it wasn't as apparent as I thought. Mainly because here, he looks as fit as he did in the show. BUT, I shouldn't really compare since this is not done by the show artists, so not everybody envisions ponies the same way.

Nice illustration from (your brilliant) story. Something tells me that Applejack is still at the "I don't know if I'm beginning to like him or if I'm going to kill him!" stage with Soarin.

"Oh! Yes, Princess. I believe you know Lieutenant Soarin, CRGAF retired, who is our flight operations co-ordinator. Miss Apple Bloom is our chief structural and systems integration engineer and Perigrin Squeak is our primary pilot."
"Hmmm... Something tells me that you have a tale to tell, my dear Twilight."
"Possibly, Princess."
"And Mr Squeak...? My sister will be most pleased to see that you are finally coming into your own."

Her dress is classy and modest in a sense, but somehow still has the feminine attractiveness to it, if you get what I'm trying to say.
