Description Taken in Robsart, Saskatchewan, this is the front edge of a prairie storm that caught me totally off guard. The front was moving very fast and after taking this picture I turned around to try to get it crossing the street behind me. That effort was not successful, so I moved down the street to another location to try and get the storm front there. At this point there was no rain and even the winds were light. After I had gone down the street some distance, I came out from behind the shelter of a building the wind hit like a wall almost knocking me over. Very soon afterwards the rain and hail began to fall. I quickly looked for shelter, then moved into the wind and rain to capture the final pictures I wanted.

In the process I got fairly wet, but I was able to protect my camera. Fortunately my partner arrived in time with the truck so that I did not have to take the shelter I had found.

After I got into the truck, the full fury of this storm hit. It was quit impressive in its violence, but thankfully, short lived.

I think it looks great

What you described with the wind hitting you like a wall. When you see a shelf cloud (the kind of cloud formation you have here), that's the exact kind of thing you can expect since shelf clouds mark the leading edge of a storm's gust front. Although this is a rather ill-defined shelf cloud, it sounds like the storm did pack a punch. Regardless, you really did manage to get a good shot of this thing.

Back in the last Century, I saw a film titled "What Colour is the Wind, Daddy". It was about a blind boy. And seeing your title brought it all back. As his father said, "You can feel and hear it, but you cannot see it as such" We can see the effect of it

The title comes from a book of the same title, written by Canadian Author W.O Mitchel. The story was set is Saskatchewan, and is about a boy of about 13 and his search for meaning.

I had to look at this for a moment as I thought it was a painting! I am a weather geek myself and seeing that shelf cloud start to form into the classic "beaver tale" just really pops out of the picture in almost a 3d way. I am just so in awe of your work I had to put you on watch!

you know I am really sure I saw some red shoes running down that street and someone clicking the heals. And all this time I thought it was some kind of a strange illusion. I guess I can stop therapy now.
