"Scootaloo was intended to be handicapped, and she would have to learn she could never fly"

Faust said that she was never intended to fly, and that there were episodes planned on her learning that, so it's less of naysaying and more of a word of Faust thing.

The issues I have with this are that it:
1. Is, at the bottom line, unsubstantiated,
2. Is from a secondhand source and the accuracy of all points is not confirmable,
3. Lacks context and may be very difficult or impossible to ever clarify (for example, questions like, does "Scootaloo was never intended to fly" mean never in the chronological context of the show's run, wherein she'll presumably always be a relatively young child, leaving the possibility that she'll be able to fly later as a late bloomer, or does it actually mean never in her life?),
4. May not even be fully relevant in any case due to the fact that Lauren Faust is no longer in the position she once held with the production of MLP:FiM and may not be in a strong (or any) position to define official canon.
While it is very interesting speculation and rumor, I think it should be recognized as speculation and rumor. Many fans will adopt it, given the source, and that's reasonable because it is a compelling element to add to her character to add depth and complexity that many people want, but the fact is that as things stand right this second it doesn't have true veracity and support based on the actual content of the series.
We may just have to agree to disagree, since I tend to "fail conservative" when it comes to adding facts to my personal book of what's canonically reliable for the series (in other words, I'll believe it when I see it! )

I would like to know every reason for those dragonflies, because just at seeing them I thought they seemed greatly appropriate.

Because dragonflies are the epitome of agility and coordination executed with precision and skill.
I think that Scootaloo's talent is, in general, an ability to move gracefully and effortlessly, and that will eventually make her an extraordinary flier. In my mind, I can see her discovering this to be the defining moment of her character - the most important day of her life.

That's kind of what I thought the dragonflies meant. And I agree. You give a valuable point. She already moves with some of that grace and effortlessness. We've seen it in her dancing, and the way she moves on her Scooter. Wonderful analysis.
