Description My neighbor took this photo after venturing back outside from a frightful experience. She was sitting on the porch when an extremely loud cracking sound came out of the sky. She ran into the apartment later saying she had never moved so fast in her life she was so scared. The lightening struck a tree on the golf course, since cleaned up, while the storm raged on pummeling roofs and ground alike with pounding hail. High winds and rain took a toll on freshly blossomed trees. The already drenched ground may take a bit to absorb the downfall.

Yikes! That's some damage o_o I'm glad no one was hurt!  A tree in our backyard was struck by lightning a few years ago, left a streak all the way down the trunk and splinters of wood went everywhere.  The cracking sound was deafening and it set our alarm system off XD

The sound here was deafening here as well. The golf course is so out in the open it isn't unusual to have trees get hit by lightning. Three just in the last year!

Wow!!! That sounds like a very scary experience. Good thing she was not harmed. I can imagine how terrifying this must have been for her.

It scared me, too, but I didn't realize a tree had been hit! I just thought it was a really, really loud thunder clap! The neighbor is doing fine but may be more careful in the future about sitting outside during a hail storm.

I am terrified of Thunder storms. We get them here as well with no rain it is very strange and when I see the lightning I cover my ears because the thunder is so scary for me. My husband always says that If I can count to one then it is far enough away. But I am still scared. I would never go outside and I usually turn off my desktop to prevent power surges during storms.

It is better to turn off electronics during a storm. I've lost two TVs due to lightning being close by and the power surge blew them out.

I'm not frightened of storms and will watch them when I can. At night when there is lightning the sky is just gorgeous!

My husband is not afraid of storms either and is constantly having to calm me down as they terrify me. We have all of our electronics plugged into power surge prevention outlets but i still turn them off during a bag storm. I always worry that those gadgets will not work properly so I agree the safest thing it to turn them off especially the expensive computers.
