Description When the Rhino first walked out into the open at the Columbus Zoo I couldn't see him as he blended in with the surrounding rocks. I could focus on him a lot better as he walked a bit more out in the open. I wasn't the only one who couldn't see him at first. I heard the same murmurs as he walked where people could see him!

Love Rhino's.
Look's like a Black Rhino. I can't quite make out the mouth.

I don't know the difference but see Rhinos at the Zoo and on the Safari Ride at The Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. I like this picture because he looks like he blends in with the landscaping.

Main difference is that the Black has a finger like mouth and the White has a wide mouth. This is why it is called the White. It was a mis-translation from Afrikaans to English. Wyd Rhino, meaning 'wide', but early settlers thought it meant 'white'. Here ends the History lesson, hehe.
I don't know what they would've called the Black, if they'd got 'wyd' right? Narrow or thin possibly?

Very interesting! I did not know that! I do like to see the Rhinos when I get a chance. Such magnificent creatures.

They are. I love the simplicity of them. They've been around , in that design, a lot longer than we have. It's so sad that we've nearly wiped them out.
The difference is so simple and easy to remember. Next time you look at one, remember that. It's obvious when you look at them both together.

I'll remember the difference so I can observe the types. When I've heard someone describe a Rhino as a "black" wondered why the animal was light in color !!
