Description
The Helmetbird, or Helmet Vanga, Euryceros prevostii, is one of Madagascar's most unusual and impressive birds. The vangas are a group restricted to the island, but a few close relatives live in Africa and Asia. This bird is about pigeon-sized, with an enormous, vaulted bill that is neon-blue, almost glowing in the dim forest. It eats mostly invertebrates, but sometimes small vertebrates, like lizards or bird chicks.
