Description Rakomeryx was another Dromomerycine, the American subfamily of the Palaeomerycidae.  Again, its 'horns' might have been more like the ossicones of modern giraffes, covered in skin and fur, except maybe for the tips which would have rubbed clean as males fought with and shoved and poked each other.  With sharp tips, unlike other dromomerycines, they would also have been good for defense against predators.  This species lived in the Miocene, from about 16 to 14 million years ago.
