Description Part of a challenge over at to illustrate a scene from a book every month or so. Check it out!

Anyway, I thought that the scene they had chosen would have worked well for the new style of digital drawing/painting that I'm working on, so I gave it a whirl. I haven't ever read the book it was based on, so my interpretation of the characters is probably all wrong. Oh well.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Thier is a community of Forgotten Realms fans on LJ that is pretty awesome-you can request art and and fanfiction, and fullfill requests if you like. Its quite fun; you might like it. [link] Its not what you call 'family friendly', though, some of the things there are of an adult nature.

So good. I love the big, blocky shadows. And the coloring is top-notch, so moody. This is really kick ass.

Whoot! Drizz't! With his violet orbs a-glowing!

Lovely job with the composition and bold graphic style, definitely shades of Mignola...

Thank you! I'm flattered. Truthfully... I didn't really know who Drizz't was prior to drawing this... I know... for shame.

Thanks! I've been working on giving my drawings a bit more contrast, and Mignola was a definite inspiration.

This is cool. Sounds like a fun contest. My favorite part is the fire; not that the rest isn't great.

WonderDookie In reply to Mediocretes [2008-02-16 20:35:18 +0000 UTC]

haha. Yeah... the fire is my favorite part too. I honestly spent more time figuring out the coloring on that then any of the characters.

Very cool, Dan. I love the way that the hair hangs on the drow, and the beautiful symplicity of the color scheme. The glowing eyes on the gnome rock!

Keep up the fine work!

Theres a slight Mignola feel-especially with the guys down the bottom. Again, I'm really liking this change in your colours-nice job with the creepy womans head here too-cool angle.

haha. You weren't the only person to point out the Mignola influence. I'd be lying if there wasn't truth to that though. I'm such a huge admirer of that guy's stuff. Thanks!

This is great. It really conveys that dark mood. It's great to see that you can create this kind of work as well as the bright cheery absurd stuff.

More like this, please!
I'd actually like to see your take on my guy Heavy.
Here's a ref if you want another challenge.
