Description Portrait of American jazz musician Louis Armstrong. Nicknamed "Satchmo," "Pops" and, later, "Ambassador Satch," Armstrong was born in 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. An all-star virtuoso, he came to prominence in the 1920s, influencing countless musicians with both his daring trumpet style and unique vocals. He recorded several songs throughout his career, and is known for songs like "Star Dust," "La Vie En Rose" and "What a Wonderful World." Great likeness of Satchmo, circa 1960.

One particular recording of his (“What a Wonderful World”) is constantly used in contemporary media — films/TV/advertising, etc. But with that one exception, I’m not sure people (non-musicians) really know him or his music anymore. A shame, if true.
