Johnny Depp is the greatest actor of our time, in my opinion. I really admire him and watched all but 8 of his movies. I will finish the last 8 soon. I drew him a lot when I started drawing, but haven't drawn him recently, minus that other piece.Drawn over a span of 3 days.

How long have you been drawing? I wish I could draw like you! Do you draw freehand? I've been trying to draw humans freehand but I always get the proportions wrong

I have been drawing since 8th grade, I'm in 11th grade now. Some of my drawings are done freehand while others were gridded. But in this case, The Depp one was gridded.

Wow, so around 4 years then? I started less than a year ago, always using gridding. I only draw animals freehand because it doesn't matter as much when you get your proportions wrong

Freehand or not, I always start with the eyes! I love drawing the eyes first. Eyes make up a person so it's key that it resembles them.
Haha as long as you feel the outline is to the best of your abilities, I guess you don't have to spend hours on it.

Yeah, I don't like gridding but then...my freehand sucks
The eyes? *groans* I love drawing eyes when they turn out looking right...but with me, that's never.
So you're probably right, it would be good to spend hours on the outline...but so far, I have been giving up less than half way through and ripping stuff up (I looked in the mirror too late and then there were so many flaws I couldn't bear it)

And if you would be willing to accept some positive criticism I think I might know what's bothering you about the face.
Follow my instructions and I'll point it out to you:
-Go to your image and make it full view.
-lift your hand out to the screen, hand open, palm out
-closing one eye place your hand over the right side of the image's face and look
-it seems fine right? ok now switch closed eyes and move your outstretched palm to the left side of the image's face. Now look
-Can you see what I see? His eye.
If it is indeed what is bothering you about it and if you are willing to accept some positive criticism I might be able to help you fix it. But ONLY if you'd like me to.

Thanks. I do accept critiques. I already see the faults in the drawing. The face! It really bothers be but I do not go back and fix them, but take it as a learning experience. I use the mirror (or flip it horizontally) to see key mistakes.
