Description
The Trident is another surviving design from the early space exploration period. Namely the Sol System colonization and prospecting period. Near earth trade was being handled by the Tyson and other re-entry capable vessels; and primitive warp ships began charting the moons of the gas giants in more detail, the first colony on mars was being built and supplies had to come in at regular intervals.

several large conventional ships had been sent before, the trident came on to the seen. designed to be built on earth and launched with boosters they were the first warp capable cargo movers prior to the space foundries completion some years latter.

This gave the Trident an unprecedented lead in becoming the trade vessel of choice for the years of interplanetary commerce in the Sol System to come.

A relatively small power generator meant that the Trident still only really managed a speed od 1.1 C at best. so it was not a good choice for extra solar travel. Still many were brought to colonies. So it was not until much latter when colonists in what became the Northern Star League began retooling and upgrading there power capacities did they become the interstellar traders seen currently.

The UEC has mostly replaced the Trident but they are a common sight in the outer worlds and with independent traders; who still hold on to them dearly. Many Tridents in this age have been passed down in families some of whom live and operate on these ships their whole lives.

The Trident has over the years also been called, Platflats, T's, and Darens.
