After the great silence from earth following WWIII, colonies that set their colony ships up as stations after the founding, began organizing trade deals with each other. Some colonies were blessed with minerals others water or scarce fineries form sol, the need of these spurred the creation of a fast transport ship. The Ohio shipyard produced the Helios heavy Hauler, but it proved cumbersome for the young colonies to quickly unload, and costly to operate.

The Trident was smaller and allowed for a great number of independent merchants and traders to build up what is now a thriving trade network in the League. More common than not the ships are homes as well, merchants chose to keep family close rather than being away for so long on runs. Because of the era the Warp generator and power plant were never able to get past 100xc barrier, forcing mid range limits to its range.

Eventually a common nickname for the Trident was the Plat flat. The Traders who came to symbolize the class, traded between worlds with Platinum denominations, refusing local notes and bills. It was only until the formation of the league that solid Platinum began to be phased out of actual trade, though in the farther reaches it is still a common sight.

i think it must be kinda cool to grow up on such a ship^^ plus the family bonds must be a lot stronger as on colony worlds

it would be neet. I figure that there were quite a large number of these int he first century alone, and the social bonds created by the strongest trade partners laid the beginning foundations for the League.
