Description
Wraiths are malicious spirits that hunt the wilds for souls to feed upon. Their bodies consist of an unknown substance that resembles an extremely thick smoke and forms into a shape vaguely resembling a figure wrapped in a tattered, black cloak. As a wraith feeds on more and more souls, a gloomy crown of shadows forms around its head, granting it more and more energy to draw upon.

A Wraith is usually brought into existance by accident. Young necromancers are usually to blame when they become overconfident in thier conjuration abilities. They tear into the ethereal plane and pour energy into it to call forth a creature to control, but occasionally a wraith will slip through the rift and kill the necromancer before he can defend against its attacks. In other cases, a Wraith is willingly born from the soul of a being filled with evil. It is said that the Dark Brotherhood hires necromancers to help transform their dying assassins into Wraiths to aid their brothers in assassinations and in thier silent wars with the Morag Tong.

In combat, a wraith is a fierce creature that fights with an animalistic rage and a wide range of dangerous magic. It will usually try to ambush lone adventurers seeking riches in the tombs, forts, and caves it dwells in by materializing behind them and tearing at them with their unnaturally sharp fingers. If the adventurer is still alive, the Wraith will retreat to a safe distance and pelt its prey with freezing magic until the adventurer is weak enough for the Wraith to overpower and absorb the life essence into the its own being; but if the adventurer happens to have a weapon capable of harming a spirit, such as silver, and plunges it into the void that is the Wraith's mouth just before it closes in to feed, the Wraith's body will be destroyed and its soul will be cast back into the ethereal plane.
