Wow. As I said On Go-Gaia (I'm Princess Kara, just so you know), It is the shock of the picture that gets me. Someone she knew is dead.. or wounded. Whichever you choose it to be. And, the shock is in her face. And her world darkens. The atmoshpere of this picture is subperb.

Adding the ear could have been fatal, just looks weird with only 1 ear, and it looks to be on funny as it's below the eye and not on the same level.

It's hard not to be cliche...aslong as you put your own spin on it, it works. (IE, Love Hina was cliche as hell...but with Akamatsu's spin, making it incredibly fun to read/look at.)

Opencanvas I guess has good thin brushes right? (unlike Adobe photoshop... -.-; )
It looks really nice. Did you draw all those individual hair strands by your mouse? Or did you use some tool to help you?
It looks simple, but the angle makes it look better and emphisizes her emotion. I like the trees in the background too!

mouse of course.. and the hair always kills me... XDD; yeah, you can set the brushes to pretty thin, but I generally just color messily and clean it up with eraser~

I used to color in between the lines @_@; took me forever. Then I tried to color messy and clean up later...it was still time consuming, then I found out I could use the select tools and the magic wand tool. It makes the job much easier, but it still depends. I don't use this method all the time and this is only on Photoshop. I don't know how different Opencanvas is...
