Description I bought myself some nifty leather carving tools last year and am enjoying exploring all the possibilities that they have opened up.
Painting regular diamonds freehand is a nightmare.
I think every mask-maker has a harlequin lurking in their mind waiting to come out.

Lovely interpretation of a classic design.

This is one of those masks where you really need to see it in the flesh, so to speak, to get a true idea of how the carving enhances the paintwork. The edges of each diamond stand out as if they've been applied individually.

Yes, the tooling doesn't really show up very well in the photo because of the high contrast of the colours. If you look very closely you might be able to see more texture on the black squares. I didn't have my lovely pebbly tool when I made this, so when I remake something similar I can probably enhace the design a bit more.

Or maybe I've just been looking for an excuse to use that emoticon.

Oh, yes.
I imagine this looks intensely effective on! I didn't even think of it at first, it seems less without a person behind. I wonder if it really appears as vivid as I think when worn. Or if the wearer does!

Good point - it's always hard to judge the effectiveness of a mask until you've seen it worn isn't it? I should look into getting some of these modelled.

It's delightful to see someone else trying your mask on and seeing how good it looks. I've mostly made my masks with a recipient in mind this far, and always been a bit unsure if it will fit well. So, it's a great joy to see them in use.

Isn't it surprising how they come to life when worn too? That's always a great moment for me, seeing how they move, and watching how their expressions seem to change with the light and shadows. You can never quite tell how they are going to work, until you see them in action.

Yes, it's a whole, different world for them.
