I've been thinking a lot recently about drawing. I miss how much I used to love it, how I would spend every free minute sketching and dreaming, my mind constantly filled with ideas and fantastical characters. Everyone in school knew me as the girl who loved to draw. But then life came along and drawing got pushed to the very bottom of the priority list. A lot of projects were abandoned, or started but never finished, and over the years I lost interest.

A few days ago, I pulled up this painting. It was so close to completion, so I decided to spend a few hours and get it done. Now I am very pleased to share, a painting of my very first original character, a dragon named Tyranna.

I think there is another painting of him in my early early gallery...

Tyranna has been with me since the very early days of my childhood. Child-me loved dinosaurs, so I made up a character, a Tyrannosaurus Rex (hence the name Tyranna), with wings. As I got older, I thought to myself, "Wait, isn't a dinosaur with wings just a dragon?" and poof, Tyranna became a dragon. I completely redesigned his appearance, and his lore really began to take shape. Tyranna is just one of many characters that live with him in my head. Maybe someday I'll write the novel I always dreamed of.

I started this painting 5 years ago, at the request of my boyfriend at the time. He wanted to see a picture of this character of mine, but I didn't have any to show him besides the ones I had made as a child. I wanted something that would capture Tyranna better than I ever had before. Maybe this doesn't even do him justice. How do you explain something so close to your heart?

The principle of Tyranna's character has always held true, despite his appearance changes. He is a proud and honorable king. He is a strong, skilled, and powerful warrior. He stands as his kingdom's fierce defender, and would fight to his dying breath to protect it. His reign is just, fair, and kind, and he is widely admired by his people. Think like Mufasa and Simba from the Lion King, which coincidentally was my favorite childhood movie.

Tyranna is the second of three sons. He was not the heir apparent, but after the untimely death of his father, he took the throne when his brothers could not. The gold collar he wears is like a crown. Each member of the royal family wears one, but each is uniquely designed. The center stone is know as the Bloodrock (birthstone) and is tuned to the wearer's spirit. Clouds within the stone glow softly and swirl in time with the wearer's heartbeat.

I won't share too much yet, I don't want to spoil a story that doesn't even exist. Still, thanks for reading. It makes me happy to share.
