Description Helgoland / deat Lun

Wiki[link]

It was under Danish and British controle and in 1890 the British traded it to Germany in the
Heligoland-Zanzibar Treaty.
Now, in addition to German, the local population, who are ethnic Frisians, speak the
Heligolandic dialect of the North Frisian language called Halunder.

Although culturally closer to North Frisia, Helgoland is part of the district of Pinneberg in Schleswig-Holstein.
It is part of the EU but excluded from the EU VAT area and customs union, making it more attractive for
tourists to shop there.
Area: 1.7 sq km
Pop: 1.150
