i actually like this one better than the other one you did. the sky is a very small part of the picture and really i didn't even notice it much until it was pointed out.
the contrast in this is much much better, and as someone else has already said, the reworked one loses that contrast and becomes too dull and grey looking.
i love this picture. it's so peaceful and i wish we had more places like that left

yes I agree I do not know what happened to the sky why it looks the way it does I wish it could be fixed I actualy want to take pictures that do not have to be worked on to be good

I like this one before it got reworked Kirk!! The reworked version lost it's contrast making the scene too dull and without depth. Since your main focal point being the stream is what viewers are going to see first, you need the contrast to display it properly!! I do see what others have said about the sky, but it just looks like parts that were forgotten when selecting. All in all ... a lovely scenic for sure!! ... Lee

DrowningInYourVanity [2008-03-20 10:03:32 +0000 UTC]

this is a wonderful picture!
my only suggestion would be to have perhaps taken the shot from more to the left/right so that the river isn't centered through the picture. just adds interest. but fantastic work

I agree with you and I actualy did but I did not lie some of the other things that were in the picture and felt it took to much away rather than adding to it

If you took this image as a RAW file, try to work with tonemapping!

Very nice! I very much like the sunbeams, too. Wish I was there right now...
Just something I noticed: most of the sky is actually a purplish color, but there are a few spots that appear white, particularly near the tree. Not sure what's going on there, but if it's not natural you might want to play with it a bit.

yamiyalo In reply to julieanshar [2008-04-05 18:04:15 +0000 UTC]

I think there are some clouds but you are right it just does not look right and I reworked it but I still do not like the color of the sky I was using a very cheap polarizer and I was wondering if that is why I can not get the color correct

riscy In reply to julieanshar [2008-03-20 07:56:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes I agree, it looks like the sky has been adjusted but some areas have been missed. Instead of using the magic wand, try using a graduated fill with the select tool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

riscy In reply to riscy [2008-03-20 21:20:49 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes no problem. I found this link on the net by searching for "gradient masks photoshop" [link]

You can apply the same principal to anything in Photoshop. So instead of using a fill colour you could brighten, increase contrast or anything but the effect would be graduated by using the gradient mask. It would give a similar effect that a real graduated filter. As per [link]

julieanshar In reply to riscy [2008-03-20 13:59:40 +0000 UTC]

Would you mind explaining how to do that? I noticed the issue, but guaranteed the magic wand would be how I would go about fixing it. :looks sheepish:

studiobproductions [2008-03-20 01:21:17 +0000 UTC]

the saturation will bring out the grass a little more. that would make the picture pop a little.

it does not look as realistic to me when I do that

EvanCarney [2008-03-20 01:16:39 +0000 UTC]

I would suggest that you could play with the levels and curves in order to bring in a little more contrast. A Hue/Saturation layer might help to bring out the golden color of the sunlight as well. It also looks like there are some areas of the sky that didn't get toned or something.

Great photo though. The lighting is really pleasant and the composition is good as well. The tree really balances it out. I like the sunbeams, they aren't obtrusive and they add a lot to the feeling of the photo. It's a beautiful scene. well done!

thank you very much for your encouraging compliment and critique I do agree with 100% I have tried some of the things you have suggested and am still nit pleased witht the out come I did use a polarizing filter when I took the shot but it was a very cheap one I just can not afford good ones

doxycomp [2008-03-20 00:05:28 +0000 UTC]

It looks really great.

Perhaps a bit more contrast thru the levels
or a bit more/less vivid colors would look good, too?
(depending on the atmosphere you would like to create)
