Description She was born Janis Lyn Joplin in Port Arthur, Texas, on January 19th 1943. By the 1960's she was the Queen of Rock N Roll. Combining Soul, Blues and Rock N Roll, she became one of the most powerful voices of her generation. Nobody cold belt out a tune like Janis. Her raspy soulful voice was unmistakable. Her rise was meteoric, her fall was catastropic. All the world would come to know this wild eyed girl from Texas. She was on the fast track, she had it all, but she lived her life on a razors edge. Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll had taken it's hold on her. A steady string of smash hits made her a household name and then all that suddenly, she was gone. Janis Joplin died of a heroin overdose on October 4, 1970, she was 27 years old.

Piece of My Heart

Hey, come on, come on, come on, come on!

Didn't I make you feel, oh honey, like you were the only man I ever wanted, that I ever needed ?
Oh ho, honey, didn't I give you nearly everything that I ever had to give ?
Oh, you know I did!
But each time I tell myself that i, I think I've had enough,
Well, I'm gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough.

I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby!
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Have a, have another little piece of my heart now, daddy daddy daddy,
You know you got it if it makes you feel good,
Yes indeed, whoaa...

She was special. The gal could belt out a song. I got to see her psychedelic Porsche at the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, but they don't allow cameras in the main part of the museum.

Thanks, I appreciate that!

If you go, it's best to go in the summer, it's brutal up there in the Winter and early Spring. It's right on Lake Erie.

I went there with my daughter's art class, the day of the induction ceremonies, there were gale force winds blowing in off the lake, it was bitter cold and freezing rain, it was really nasty out. The kids got to meet one of the guys from Run DMC? The Museum is really cool, there is a lot to see and do in Cleveland, it's a very cool town despite what we say about it in Pittsburgh. Other than the nasty weather, I enjoyed Cleveland. They also had ZZ Topp's Eliminator and Bruce Springsteen's Corvette at the museum, but Pearl's Porsche was the coolest.

CMA is great, plus while we were there it was free, I think due to construction, but it may be free all the time.

Ooh, I hope it's still free
That's kinda odd, paying into a museum, but hey, the only ones I've been to were tiny so what do I know?

yankeedog In reply to homestar-n00b [2010-01-07 18:26:34 +0000 UTC]

It cost $15 to go to the Carnegie Museum or the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. I consider it money well spent, so it was a real surprise the CMA was free. We all made donations, it only seem right. It may have been free due to some of the galleries being closed due to construction, but even with that, it was a fine museum.

Best time for psych. rock music, but there is some good new stuff floating around now, like "Porcupine Tree"

That would be cool. It's really too bad that she took to drugs like she did. She was big, I think she would have been even bigger if she had lived. Others from that era who survived, did pretty well. It was a great time for music. I'll always love her music.

yeah. maybe. still, being great and dying young is what makes people trascend.

she didn't die. she lives now and will live forever, only we just can't see her.
