GIVE ME ALL YOUR FEELINGS SO I MAY STOMP ALL OVER THEM.Fujiko is such an incredibly generic little anime girl that I feel this need to insist she's not based on any particular anime character (although, like Hayate, she's named after an Ultraman character, largely because "Fuji" means "Wisteria" and that makes it an incredibly pretty name for me.
)I am going to justify the presence of the floofy pigtails by pointing out that I (GDG) actually used to wear my hair like that at that age.

So much brilliant emotion in such few panels! I must say I love the pacing of this! I adore how this little girl isn't at all intimidated by Seto's firm stance in panel 1. I can almost sort of see her 'tiptoeing' closer and closer to him so that by panel 2 he's not so much 'annoyed' but slightly suspicious like 'where are you going with this kid?' Also I think it kinds of irks him to admit to being related to Haytate (or rather the whole clan) but that's not exactly something you SAY to someone who just called said cousin 'daddy.'
Then we have a complete 180 with the trademark Kaiba smirk. One can't say no to a little honest-to-goodness hero worship, can one? Hmm.... scans comments..... I'm shocked no one mentioned the fantastic sound effect. "Fufl" is perfect for hair ruffling. Your grasp of onomatopoeia always earns 
I know everyone loves the last panel--the swirl of emotions in the blankness of Kaiba's stare speaks volumes--but truth to tell, I like the second-to-last panel best. That's a shared moment of sadness right there.

Fujiko's adorable. I'm gonna squeeze her, yes I AM. (Did I mention that Seto's rocking the casual look? I did? Oh, right. Heh.) I love that Hayate's already got a little family of his own, good for him. Now maybe his little COUSIN will get a MOVE ON and make that girl his OFFICIAL GIRLFRIEND. (Because that'd be a big step for Mr. Kaiba, yes it would.)
Fuji's response to Seto makes me feel that maybe 'Nana' has been actively talking about her dislike for her nephews....which really, REALLY makes me angreh......

Oh my gosh. This page won my heart. Thoughts: 1. I love how seto is standing in the first panel-it's very clearly the confident, tough guy we see so often in the show, but given the context and the rest of the panel, it seems more like he's trying to CONVINCE himself he's that tough guy. 2. She's precious. nuff said. 3. Love the hair ruffle. I'm a big believer that Seto is good with little kids, part because of the fact he never got to be one, and also I think his highly analytical mind respects how kids are naturally curious and unafraid, but at the same time, he does better interacting with kids, because he knows that they aren't as rational or smart as him, so he can't get annoyed at them like he does the rest of the population.

3. I am also a big believer of this same thing about Seto and kids. I think it's an important distinction to make, too: He appreciates children for their blunt curiosity, not because he thinks they're "innocent" or something stupid like that. (Phrasing it as he would.)

But Fujiko is is a cute kid. And, as evident in the last two panels, empathetic and not as naive at her age as one would expect.
For six, she actually seems about right. Then again, she could be tall for her age. My own niece is six and a little peanut.

Hayate's 25 during this storyline, but Fujiko IS adopted (just not to annoy "Nana"), so their respective ages aren't necessarily as much a factor.

Yes. One of the more important things this means is that Hayate was a teenager when all the nastier stuff went down, like his cousins being sent to the orphanage. At the time he'd considered himself to still be powerless, "just a kid." When he realized what kind of things Seto was accomplishing while the same set of ages he'd been at the time, Hayate felt deeply guilty because he'd let himself be cowed by his parents where Seto took over his adopted father's company and then completely changed its direction.
(That's not why he adopted Fujiko either. XD)
Yeah, Hayate has a lot of backstory. Not more than he's really due, I feel, but there's still a chunk ton of it back there.
