Friendly and sociable, Kohl puts himself across as a goofy guy. Conversation with him is usually simple and he forms easy bonds with the people he encounters, rarely seen without a smile! He loves to greet others and make friends. But while his smiles are genuine, Kohl himself is not as simple minded as he likes to portray -- in his time alone he is fiercely introspective and finds the most comfort in tinkering and fixing his various inventions and contraptions. By nature he's a lonely person.

He loves his friends and (family) with everything he has and would do anything for them -- but could easily extend this same conviction to someone met only 10 minutes ago. One part selfless and nine parts selfish, Kohl can't bear to see the suffering of others. A fix-it man who gets most caught up fixing others, he thinks of self-sacrifice as the easier road. He does his best to look after his friends, but sometimes he just isn't very good at it.

Though something short of dishonest, Kohl tends to compartmentalize and try to match the positivity of whoever he's around. Even when in a compromising position, he'll rarely show genuine upset (and his wibbly tears don't count). Although he has his inventions to keep himself occupied, Kohl hasn't really many healthy methods of dealing with stress. People who knew him and Carrie probably realise that he's got issues

In name, Kohl is the eldest son of the Emmerson house -- a mage family boasting respectable lineage and several magician researchers of high standing. He entered Concordia as the contracted partner of his twin sister Caroline (Carrie), a talented young magician and her vessel brother.

In their fourth year Carrie died suddenly (unexpectedly) and Kohl left Concordia without any warning. Returning to school after a month-long absence it seemed like he was the same and still as cheerful as ever -- just wanting to move on, attempting to form pacta with whoever might make use of him. He's had difficulty staying contracted for longer than a few months ever since his return, to the point where it's almost a joke to have Kohl as a par -- he doesn't really mind, (but won't you give it a go?)

Rumour has it that Kohl is a difficult partner for a variety of reasons, but seems desperate nonetheless to continue his education at Concordia. He is supposedly still looking for a permanent partner but has been unsuccessful in finding one for several years now, much to the chagrin of his family. While outwardly friendly to entities, he steers away from forming contracts with them and doesn't like to spend a long time in their company.
