Summertree Windstrider sat alone, gazing out into the green, open plains of Mulgore. The other tauren her age were chatting amongst themselves and relating to their training, but she was alone. It was fine. She knew she was different. By whatever gift or curse afflicted her, she saw the spirits of the world around her, and they saw her.

Most often, she spoke with her greatmother Danawe, her father’s mother. She had been slain by centaur long before Summertree, or even her mother had been born. Today, Greatmother Danawe sat beside her on the grassy plateau.

Child of my child, you should go out among your peers and make friends. I am dead, child. You need not hold on to me so. I have little influence on the world now.

“Greatmother, they laugh at me. I don’t want friends like that.”

You have a great gift, child, but it comes with a great burden as well. I wish you could find someone who might understand your gift. You’re alive. You shouldn’t have to content yourself with the dead as companions.

“I like spending time with you and Greatfather. Papa never got to know you.”
