Jaunary 20-21, 2013 colored pencil drawingI feel like I've been spamming my watchers with a lot of lesbian stuff recently... but this piece of artwork has a very specific purpose. I just completed a full length novel titled "Hard to Keep Hidden" and I needed a cover for it before I printed the book. So tada! Here is my cover artwork.
"Hard to Keep Hidden" (please read at [link] !) is a novel written from the perspective of Jaylee Allington, a high school senior who has lived her entire like as a very strong, knowledgeable Christian. She has over the course of high school gotten into debates with other friends over issues such as gay marriage, propounding her view she believes homosexuality is wrong. However, right before graduation, she comes to realize she has fallen in love with one of her best friends - another young woman - named McKenna Seward. The two of them begin to date. In a sudden incredibly powerful state of cognitive dissonance, Jaylee finds herself trying to rationalize both what the Bible says about Christianity and what her heart says about McKenna - all the while trying to hide the truth to everyone around her that she is a lesbian. After all, even if her views of homosexuality begin to morph, the consequences will be severe if either her or McKenna's family and friends find out about their secret relationship.

I really like your drawing and the idea of the end which tries to cover the viewer's eyes.. I would only suggest you to work a little on the face of the brown-hair girl because it looks very fixed according to me..
The other girl gives me emotion, while she looks just like a "doll" according to me!
But I love this drawing and I am going to fave it because I love the way you deal with shadows and lights, the idea is very original and the proportion of the characters are perfect.
I think I'm in love with the way you draw the black hair of the girl on the left

Thank you very much for you comment! It was very helpful and I'm glad you liked it. I was worried for the longest time that the hand covering the viewer would look awkward and I'm glad you think that idea worked. I'll work on your comments the next time I draw; you are right.
And I'm really happy with her hair, too. I've always had problems with the highlights and shadows of hair, but I took some tips from a friend of mine, and it turned out!

Yeah... actually, the novel is really a new sort of thing for me, too. I've always been writing, but most of my life I didn't write stories about people, and most certainly not day-to-day planet Earth things. But inspiration! It can really get us to expand our horizons.

Sometimes forcing oneself to write helps... but most of the time what's written is just crap. I had one teacher encourage people to write every day, though, saying, "Sometimes you have to write the crap out before you get anything good."

I'm not sure if that advice is extremely helpful, or frustrating lol. Still, I guess it's worth a go- even if it just gets the bare bones out and can be structured and edited at a later date.
