I guess it's open for interpretation. My initial idea for the painting was to bring out the more emotional side of Ellie. When playing the game I was quite taken aback during the "Winter" section at the end where Ellie breaks down emotionally. It was one of the most memorable an impactful scene in the game, because you would see a more sensitive and emotional side of Ellie (in contrast to her independent, strong and sort of tomboyish image). For this reason, I wanted to portray a similar emotion, conveyed through her tears and loneliness: as to actually emphasis the burden that Ellie actually carries. In the game's world, children were quite rare and hence she wouldn't have many her age to bond with and understand her. In addition, she is the cure to possibly save mankind. Not to mention that she might be killed or kidnapped at any point by people who might seek to take advantage of her existence. However she needs to keep surviving for the sake of saving the world. One can't possibly understand what emotional distress she is going through in the world she is living in. Image to carry such a heavy burden all by yourself without anybody to fully understand your feelings. Hence the title "All Alone".
