Description In a small village, not far down the way,
There is a dark wood, neither happy or gay.
The people did fear it, and all of it's creatures,
Merely for it's seemingly gruesome and grizzly features.

But not all books can be read by the cover,
As one young mother, was about to discover,
On a morning walk, like no other,
When something happened, to make her very bones shudder.

Within her pram where the baby did sleep
She looked down, and upon seeing it, did weep,
As precious child had vanished with no trace
And tears poured down, poor Mothers face

Meanwhile Child was in the wood
Happy at having found a way out, not knowing it could
It would go back Mother, it knew it should
Even with it's small brain, it still understood

But deep within the shadows, a wolf did trot,
A bloody knick in its ear, from where it had been shot.
It scented the child... and it's bubbling snot,
And with a grimace, it turned towards it's spot.

At the sight of the beast, the child let out a wail,
Scared by Wolf, it crawled quickly back down it's own trail.
Wolf narrowed it's eyes and, with a raise of it's tail,
It ran after the child, mind intent on it's need not to fail.

With a mighty leap, it flew over Child's head,
And Child by now, many tears had shed.
Child stopped dead, and in it's tiny chest grew dread
As Wolf came closer, it's paws soft in their oncoming tread

Child closed their eyes, expecting the worst,
Wondering what part of it wolf would eat first.
Wolf looked at Child, and it's heart was hurt,
Surely Child must know that for it's blood it did not thirst?

With gentle jaws, Wolf picked up the small baby,
And Child was shocked, it thought it would have been eaten with gravy
Is this really true, does Wolf want to save me?
But Wolf gave no answer, merely carried it back to the pram lady.

Mother by now, was frantic as hell,
Shouting and calling, even checking a nearby well,
Just for the possibility that Child may have fell.
But Wolf merely watched, seeing her panic swell

But Child did wriggle in Wolf's grip, finally letting out a call,
And as Mother looked over, she nearly had a fall,
Luckily catching herself on a nearby wall,
Relief and fear filling her chest, but anger ruled over all.

"Get away from my child," Mother did shout,
"Or I'll get my husband to cut off your snout!"
Wolf dropped Child, in his eyes fear and doubt,
Maybe it was a bad idea, to help this little sprout?

"No Mother, don't!" The child frantically called out
"I would not have come back, if Wolf I was without!"
Mother looked shocked, and looked quickly about,
"Ok Wolf, but only this once. But not a word of this will I or you spout"

Wolf nodded in thanks, glad his nose was safe,
Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea, to help the waif.
With a flick of his tail, and a wave from Mother,
Off Wolf trotted, glad that happy was another

The moral of the story, as you may have already guessed,
Is that things are not what they seem - not even, a Wolfish pest
