My iris made "A vain promise..." of tender greens and violets in early June, yet is already
just a memory, as the poem promised, faded and going grey. Thanks for the fave, I hope
the image will be a reminder of its beauty for a long while to come Romy
Please do keep on watching???

Aww thanks!
I've been alright, applying for grad school and finishing my (eternal) B.Sc. degree this year. Gosh, this has got to be the most tedious process in history! though will hopefully be over soon. But yeah all good XD
How about you?

HI I JUST POPPED IN TO QUICKLY SAY:
I think KNOW you will love this forever. I do, and so will you.
DOWNLOAD IT NOW AND BASK IN ITS SPLENDOR.
I've already spent like 10 hours in it, and it's the reason I go to bed even later.

Hey, that sounds insanely interesting, life changing even! I've tried to download it but it's been a hassle, and i'm currently signed in from another pc since mine is undergoing reparation, and I'll try again when I get it back.
But tell me, is it cool? Looks like a video game!

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2012-07-23 13:05:29 +0000 UTC]
IT IS INSANELY INTERESTING!
Hassle? Going to the Downloads section, and picking a mirror (or torrent, which I recommend - it's faster) to download is a hassle?
But yeah, it's a pretty big download, so better to do it from your own PC.
IT IS AMAZING! You control it pretty easily, like a game (WASD + mouse), but it's actually a HUGE universe simulator. The known universe is there - every planet and star we know can be visited, every planet we know that is there, but we don't know anything about, is generated procedurally (beautiful , realistic landscapes ), and the UNCHARTED UNIVERSE IS THERE AS WELL! Completely procedural - imagine - literally millions of galaxies with trillions of stars with dozens of planets!
I've found a few terra-type planets, a planet lit by two suns, lots of pulsars, colorful atmospheres, awesome gas giants, frozen titans, nebulae - IT JUST DOESN'T END!
Also, I haven't found one yet, but I know there are black holes too - possibly in star clusters.
Also, oceanias are so soothing to look at.
Oh, and the highest velocity you can go at is 1 gpc per second. looks awesome to see all the stars and galaxies swoosh by like that.
Long comment is long - I could go on about it all day.

Ahhh i've just downloaded it and got it running - it is mindblowing fantastic!
I love it! Wait, that doesn't even begin to describe it. The closest thing I've seen to that is probably Stellarium but the graphics don't come even close. I've just visited Andromeda and its satellite galaxy and almost cried. Too damn cool!
And holy shite, 1gpc/s is insane! still haven't gone so fast but still i agree the most awesome thing is the effect of seeing the stars pass you by. Thanks so much for showing me to this!

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2012-08-10 13:37:52 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm glad I managed to make you happy!
And the closest thing I've seen to this is Celestia - it was good too, but nowhere near as good as SE.
By the way, if you press F6, you get a list of pre-saved awesome locations - and you can add your own! There is a black hole on it, but I didn't want to go there until I've found my own. So after a dozen unlucky searches in star clusters, I went for an easy catch, and flew right into the center of Milky Way, and BOOM! Black hole in all of its light-time-and-space-warping splendor! It was amazing. Then I went to the listed one - it was amazing as well. And both of them were quite scary for some reason...
I SHALL NOW GO ON A TERRA WITH LIFE HUNT!
Also, if you select any object and press F2, you get a list of everything orbiting it.
Right-click an object from this list, and you get a list of objects orbiting that one - that's how I hunt terra types.
ALSO! Press F3 and type in RG 0-0-0-32 - it's a beautifully volumetric, irregular galaxy that I've found by accident.

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2012-06-07 04:32:41 +0000 UTC]
I'm working on a Star Wars fan art at the moment, actually
I can't believe it's been so long since I take up an artistic project! I'm thinking of doing a pencil color diptych (Anakin on one frame and Padmé on the other) but seeing as how the first image is taking so long I don't know if I'll finish both.. (I'm not really sure why SW anyways, I was never a huge fan of the saga but I thought it'd be fun and I'm on vacations so why the hell not.) But anyway I'm finishing Anakin now so I'll probably submit that soon!

I SHALL WAIT IMPATIENTLY FOR THE RESULT!
Funny, I'm not a big fan of SW as well, but I kinda thought a few times about doing SOMETHING Star Wars-themed.
I guess it's just a very inspiring setting.
