Well Chris, to change your Avi (from what I saw) you can go to the user profile page where it says I think, Change Profile or something, then your current avi will be displayed, either put in a 50x50 link of a picture or shrink one to that size, preferrably using Microsoft Picture Manager or by other means.
Anyways, hopefully you'll get that scanner and get pictures up.

You mean the icon thingies?
Just use the colons--> :icon [then insert their username here in lowercase and without the brackets] then another colon :
So, it'll look like this:
: icon oblivexx : just without the spaces. ^^
So it'll be this:
Be careful to not mispell the username you want to address, or you might get someone else. XD
And make sure it's all LOWER CASE or it won't come out right.
