# About me

Hello, I go by Shadsie. If you want to know my age, I "live outside of time."

I am an artist of varied mediums, some of them unusual. My favorite medium is acrylic paint and I frquently use animal bones as a canvas. I find these out in natural places and meticulously clean them - I don't kill any of the animals to make my art, they're all just found.

Otherwise, I paint on canvas and paper. I draw, I sculpt a little and I even do a bit of digital work - in short, I work with whatever I can get my hands on and do a lot of experimenting.

I have an associate's degree in graphic design, but it hasn't seen much work. I have written fantasy novels, which can be found on Amazon Kindle in both digital and paperback formats:

"A World of Rusted Dreams"

- In a future world a young girl named Mira lives in the town of Rust, which makes its living from scavenging the remains of the past. Discontent to remain there without having at least one great adventure in her life, she summons a Guardian from the Heavens to protect her on a journey to her nation's capital city. Guardians are spiritual companions that only come to those summon them with earnest hearts and can only be seen by those that believe in them.

www.amazon.com/dp/1520266642?r… Paperback, $12.99

And

"Malarkey and Belinda"

In the small nation of Serrif a creature is born as the first, the last and the only of his kind. He is derisively named “Malarkey” by the man who commissioned his creation as a way to spite the mages in his employ who thought his birth impossible.

Malarkey is a gryphon – a re-creation of a beast that had been extinct in his world for almost a century. His kind were creatures of loyalty and could be bonded to a single human as a protector with an unshakable faith. He was created to serve the king of Serrif, Lord Cirrit, as a weapon of war. But instead, the bond that is the blessing and curse of his blood finds him pledging his life to Belinda, the house slave assigned as his caretaker and adoptive mother.

As turmoil rises at the edges of their kingdom, as well as from within, the gryphon and woman must rely upon each other in a quest for mutual freedom. They must navigate a deadly world in which both men and beasts are against them. But still, they have each other – and for as long as they both survive, that might just be enough for the two of them to spread their wings and fly.

www.amazon.com/Malarkey-Belind… Computer Edition / Basic Edition $3.99

www.amazon.com/Malarkey-Belind… Paperback Edition / Basic Edition $14.99

www.amazon.com/dp/1521321965/r… Paperback Edition / Deluxe Edition $44.99

- The difference between the Basic Editions and the Deluxe Edition is that the Deluxe Edition has full-color painted illustrations, while the Basic Edition has black and white pen and ink illustrations.

Otherwise, I am prone to becoming obsessed with various entertainments and will do fan art for such. My gallery is split between fan art, works on skulls and bones, artwork related to my novels, original misc. artwork and jewelry-making.

I am willing to take concrit on all works unless specified, even on older works for which I am too lazy to enable the new "critique" feature on.

Enjoy!

I do rather like this so far.  It just needs more, but I am already interested in this random sewer kid (with pointy teeth!) and this generous fellow who's taken an interest in helping her.  The little moments you've written are rather charming.  I caught a couple of misspellings...well, I'm actually not sure "Inquery" is a misspelling of "Inquiry" or if it is the British spelling.  I'm pretty sure you meant "piece" when you wrote "peece," however.

Thank you for having translations of more common English from the Cockney.  I like having the Cockney around because my brain can generate the accent / I can imagine the characters talking, but it is difficult to understand without a translation.  Still, there are some large blocks of it at certain points, which makes things feel weird even with the translation - I am not sure how it can best be broken up to keep an even flow in the writing.  I almost want to suggest less emphasis upon the accent, but I am not sure that is realistic.  (It really is almost an entirely different language).  There are just points where, for me, it seems like there's a little too much of the "foreign language" / accent I'm trying to decipher before the translation.

"I do rather like this so far.  It just needs more, but I am already interested in this random sewer kid (with pointy teeth!) and this generous fellow who's taken an interest in helping her."

Thanks! I've actually got 13 chapters completed. I can send you the rest if you're interested in reading more. (Just PM me your e-mail address or create a G-mail address that I can send them to and send that.)

"The little moments you've written are rather charming.  I caught a couple of misspellings...well, I'm actually not sure "Inquery" is a misspelling of "Inquiry" or if it is the British spelling.  I'm pretty sure you meant "piece" when you wrote "peece," however."

Nope. Those are actual spellings that were used in that period. In fact, if I'd used more "period" spellings you'd probably have had much more difficulty reading it. (The first English Dictionary wasn't published until 1755, and spellings -- and even some pronunciations -- didn't become "standardized" until well into the 1790s.)

"Thank you for having translations of more common English from the Cockney. There are just points where, for me, it seems like there's a little too much of the "foreign language" / accent I'm trying to decipher before the translation."

Nattie's version of Cockney comes from a 3-vinyl disk set of interviews that the BBC recorded during and shortly after the "Blitz" in 1940 that was part of the Indianapolis Library's collection in the 1980s. (Unfortunately it's gone now.) One of the people interviewed was a Cockney sewer worker who helped to keep the London sewers repaired and operational during the bombings. (There's a reason that no one's ever heard of "The Great Cholera Epidemic of 1940" -- it never happened!) His accent was *very* "rough" (although I fell in love with it instantly on first hearing), and I had to play the interview several times to get a clear understanding of what he was saying. So what you're reading is the closest written approximation to his dialect that I can get, plurals and all. (If I can ever get it turned into a webcomic or graphic novel format, her speech bubbles will have the Cockney and the translation will be under the panel.)

Hope to see and hear more from you here and on The Slacktivist!

My email is shadsieblue@yahoo.com - be sure to clearly label them or say, "Hey, this Reynard."  I've had my email for a long time and am lazy about its upkeep...I get spam frequently and it's been more than once that I've accidentally had to un-spam folder something I accidentally deleted or labeled as spam.  (In fact, this happened with my own Fanfiction.net account).

I assume since you watched me you'll be reading the ALBW fic, whee! The title is pretty lame though...thought maybe you'd be able to suggest something better.

I kind of skimmed to read later.  I'm trying to remember what roleplay it was... was it the one where I played a rather grumpy Hilda?  I had a friend (online friend I made whom I learned lived about an hour's drive away from me) come for a visit yesterday - second time we've gotten together - and was all tired last night trying to read it, so I gave up and slept.

I've given thought to returning to Zelda Dungeon, but I don't know how welcomed I'd be back.  The last time I looked in so many names and topics had changed.  I just got Triforce Heroes as an unexpected Christmas present - so I can talk that there, I guess.  I also got my own copy of Fire Emblem: Awakening as a present, so I could give the borrowed game  back to my aforementioned friend and could say "Go ahead and erase my files if you need to."  So, time to create a second iteration of "Shadsie." I won't be replaying Skyward Sword for a while, since my buddy borrowed that from me.

I hit the watch because I realize I hadn't been watching you should.  I'm on Facebook, too.  I'm not too secret on my real name here since I sign a lot of original works with it and I shill my self-published book.  Stacey Nordwall if you want to look it up, though I don't know who you are there.  I'm... pretty random on Facebook so far - I also watch people and places who are fountains of geek-memes, so I share a lot of those.

RubyDragonCat In reply to Shadsie [2016-01-02 23:35:27 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that was the one. You were Hilda. I still have my Mathias/Matt OC and "Thief Girl", who I gave the name Lilla. It's a reference to a Fire Emblem game I know you probably never played. The first one that was released outside of Japan for GBA, Blazing Sword. But it has no subtitle for the western release. It's just Fire Emblem. Anyway there's characters in it named Matthew and Leila, who are a couple and of the thief class. I think that subtle reference is the cleverest thing ever. This time I also gave a name to "Spear Boy" though.

Don't feel bad, I havent been around ZD in eons either. Dunno if I will go back...and I keep my facebook for irl people/family. I don't use it at all for online friends.

I saw that you got Triforce Heroes on your journal. Is it any better than Four Swords? I have the Four Swords virtual console thing that allows single player on my 3ds and I'm not that impressed with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadsie In reply to RubyDragonCat [2016-01-03 09:20:47 +0000 UTC]

I've never played Four Swords, actually.  I wind up playing with my buddy Blender (23 Blenders) a lot, with a random online person to fill the roster.  It's cute.  It's very much an alternate universe of Hyrule, though, being this little kingdom of Hytopia that's obsessed with fashion and instead of the stakes being "darkness will cover the land forever, whahaha!" its' more like "People will be UNFASHIONABLE forever! - le gasp!"  Madame Coture reminds me of Edna Mode from "The Incredibles."

Single player on Triforce Heroes sucks.  I tried it once on the lowest level and found it impossible to do one of the puzzles to pass - and it's very easy with other people / was easy with random online people.  You do pick t up pretty quick and random online people can be really great and cooperatve.

Shadsie In reply to RubyDragonCat [2016-01-03 20:29:21 +0000 UTC]

Yep.  The world of Hytopia is based on fashion.  It's cute.  At least, it is if you consider it not entirely canon to Hyrule and just as a cute little pocket-universe.

I figured out a trope we should add to The Great Desert Page. Genre Savvy for Link for knowing being nice to old people gets you free food and mention how in fairy tales refusing to help the elderly meant you would end up crippling yourself. Plus the guy who helps the old person marries the Princess... Hey, wait a minuet of forest here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadsie In reply to lilith-chan [2015-04-02 00:26:04 +0000 UTC]

If you want to, you can go ahead and add that.

I was skimming the fic the other day, and thinking of the remake I never kept up with.  Playing Hyrule Warriors, I think that Warriors Link's vision-animal would be a bull.  With the other warriors, he's a part of a herd.  He charges into enemies like a bull... and if I did anything where he were included, it would be a joke on how I "bullfight" a lot of enemies in waiting for them to reveal their weak points.

Sadly, I don't find as much fresh material as I used to, since I live in a suburban apartment now (strangely enough, a few skulls have found me on roadside walks, still)...

I do live next to a cemetary but... no... just no... though it has been joked about in my household. XD

I live in the city too, but a lot of people online sell skulls, so I get those to paint. I've cleaned the bones from roadkill before too, but even that is difficult when you have neighbours close by!

LOL at the cemetery jokes! I work at a funeral home so yeah.. similar jokes!

Shadsie In reply to SomeSmallPlanet [2011-12-21 07:21:09 +0000 UTC]

I know the story, roughly, but I've actually never played it. I keep looking for the GBA version when I'm at game stores, but I never find it.

I'm playing Skyward Sword now. Early Christmas present. Hee!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SomeSmallPlanet In reply to Shadsie [2011-12-24 08:07:46 +0000 UTC]

You might be having trouble with that because there is no GBA version. You may be thinking of the GBC version or maybe the GBA port of A Link to the Past. I ask because I think the story involves Link and the enemies in more ambiguous roles than pure good and evil, and I'm kind of not OK with the results.

Nice about Skyward Sword though. Maybe I'll be getting a copy on Christmas! My friend lent me Ocarina of Time 3D and I'm playing that now.

Did you hear about the official timeline?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadsie In reply to SomeSmallPlanet [2011-12-25 03:00:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, read about the timeline. Seems like a "let's pull this outta our butts" move by Nintendo, honestly. The third "Link dies" branch threw me for a loop.

I don't care too much. I'm a fanficition writer. I always wind up using "whatever timeline works for a given story." One of my fics has an alternate-universe Zelda-timeline specific to it. Otherwise, I just enjoy the games as they come.

For the first time, I felt the laughter, the pain, the sorrow, and, above all, the adventure. God, it made me wish I'd been part of the production team while you were making it. Truly epic, it was, and I hope to read more of your works in the near future.
