Usual ups and downs. Right now it's pretty mixed bag: some things are OK to say the least, other could've been much better. Let's say it's like being an unemployed man and at the same time watching how your kid grows/develops/changes every day. (:

Sure. It's just a general feeling about the picture. Hard to describe, but it's related to choice of subject, composition - images have somewhat different proportions. I remember I downloaded pics from the camera once and most of them were done by my sis, but my brother shot some too. I spotted them instantly (not because they were better, but different). Thanks for the link! That new Canon is intriguing...saw the Fuji, too (why *9* MP?!). It's like...why even buy right now, since they keep coming out with newer & more advanced units? Ugh. That Samsung IS big, though, you're right. I'm a bit concerned about buying a DSLR for use in the AZ desert, due to the dust. Having to change lenses while out in the bush could get tricky, especially if the wind is blowing

9 mpix? I think it's just the Fuji's way. They have completely different CCD than the others (in fact, if they continued to use full potential of that technology, they could claim 18 mpix resolution, which in reality would be around 11 megapixels-equivalent). I think even at 9 mpix they gonna beat every hybrid camera up to 11 mp... If yo are concerned about dust inside SLR, well... you won't avoid sand going inside, but there's one camera that can clean it's CCD by itself. [link] Unfortunately, it uses nonstandard lens and has smallish sensor.

Samsung is quite interesting but it looks like it's going to be even bigger than some SLRs (OK, it has wide angle, but hm...). There's also that Fuji S9000 (again, big zoom and wide angle, 9 mpix). But I was refering to something that, if priced right, is going to make a huge splash. Not sure about the price, but if it's going to be on D100/20D/Minolta 7D level, it can wipe out most of the competition. If they make it cheaper, this will be the end of amateur/prosumer film cameras. I believe details will surface pretty soon.
