Description
That moment when you realize you are not a good person, but quite the opposite. When you realize you've been lying to youself all along, that there is nothing righteous about your actions, but only selfishness. You lie and steal, not for a greater good or for retaliation against oppression, but just because you like it. You are ready to sacrifice those who love you, and even kill in order to reach your goals....you are not a good person.

Shadi thinking about herself again!
This time I experimented with grayscale and sharp light. I'm pretty happy with the result, I'm having so much fun with this tablet!
The drawing was, again, sketched on paper and colored digitally. Any feedback is more than welcome! ^^

Not a fan of the lightning, frankly; The focus on Shadi makes for a somber, contemplative piece, and personally the lightning is too bright and ends up disrupting the overall feel.
Still, it's a nice solitude piece, regardless.

I can see what you mean, but one of the main reasons I did this drawing was to experiment on the lightning effect, so it had to be done.

Now I suddenly wonder; have you ever considered what would happen if you had substituted the lightning with the moon instead? Or perhaps that doesn't fit your idea for this one drawing one way or another?

Love your use of the brushes on this one! When I saw it from a distance I first thought it was a reeeeally ambitious graphite drawing, but the effect is just as stunning!Ā

The choice for monochrome was a wise choice as one focuses on the main character and the lush and interesting background!

I like it. Nice and contemplative. Her expression is great. She really appears to be going over and over something in her head and not quite getting it sorted. I also like the little details, like the grass growing out of the roof.
One thing that bugs me a bit is the weird light-dark-light pattern going on with the dome in the background, Shadi's face in shadow, and the bright back-lighting on the rest of her. It flattens the drawing, giving the background dome and her shoulder equal visual priority, and higher priority than her face. (That the dome and tower also sort of continue the line of her back doesn't help matters.)
I'm tempted to say that the brightness on the background buildings should be dialed back and Shadi's head given more of the same (unrealistic but wonderfully dramatic) back-lighting as the rest of her, but then you lose the idea of having her face in shadow to match her psychological and emotional state. Maybe instead you could emphasize the shading more so that, if the lightning bolt is the brightest part of the picture, Shadi is the darkest? Or at least the most high-contrast, with bright back-lighting and harsh shadows, versus the background buildings that keep more toward mid-tones? Sorry, I wish I could be more help here.Ā
I'm not saying the piece needs to be re-done or anything.Ā I'm just...thinking out loud, I guess?

Curiously in your previous deviation I was initially going to comment that maybe Shadi saw a dark mirror showing her darkest side. I never imagined that it would become a sort of prediction for a concept of a future work, but a more surprising coincidence is that I want to make something similar in a illustration for a fanfic that I'm writting Ā .
