Description
This...I think this is possibly the best work I've ever done. I'm really proud of this piece.
I also feel really bad. See, I love Aang (and all the characters, even Ozai) and I really hate to draw people in pain. (Well...maybe not Ozai, but you never know!)
I turned the prompt over and over in my mind, trying to see how I could incorporate unrequited without having anyone be hurt. Sad Zuko kills me, and I couldn't bring myself to draw either Maiko or Kataang during Zutara week of all weeks! So unfortunately, we get sad Aang. But I think he really brings the whole piece together, so maybe it isn't so bad. (I also imagine Toph there to comfort him, in her Toph way of course, when he's ready to be comforted.)
I got the lovely idea for the colors for Katara's dress (shades of teal) from the lovely emletish over on fanfiction.net. In her Stalking Series, (which is so so so good fyi) she mentions Katara trying on dresses with Suki and Toph. Katara falls in love with a teal version of her finale dress, and Toph later takes Zuko to get the dress for Katara, resulting in a color mix up. This is what I think would've happened if Suki had taken Zuko shopping, or if Toph had remembered a mention of the color teal.
Also, look!!!!! A background!!!! I hardly ever do backgrounds so this is really happy too!!! But in case you can't tell, the look that Zuko and Katara are sharing is supposed to be on the balcony (you know, THAT balcony) and therefore this piece could be followed up by an ending Zutara kiss instead of a Kataang one.
I hope no one hates me for making Aang so sad here. I really did try to avoid being cruel.
I've got Socks done, and I'm fairly pleased. Now I need to think creatively about Slow Dancing and I'll be done with my first Zutara week!!! (Can I has mor prompts plez? *puppy dog eyes*)
