Perhaps it's a silly thought, but this reminds me of transactions I've seen in United States schools where kids are trading with each other for salt to put on food, because condiments and the contents of lunches have gotten unnecessarily tightly regulated. Here's hoping that, as you suggested, these two were counting their coins instead.
The distribution on this photograph is enchanting. You have the four spots of bright leaves, one in each corner; you have two near-symmetrical instances of horizontal stripes in the kids' shirts; you have the piping in the boy's trousers mirroring the seam in the girl's trousers. It is extraordinarily appealing for the whole-picture harmony.

It's an interesting scene - I like how you've centered everything - with the two kids on either side of the bowl. One thought I had was that perhaps the color is distracting from the scene, though I do like that fluorescent pink...it might be taking away from the exchange between the two kids.
