It came as a surprise when the young panther traveled so far, at the other end of the galaxy, where the sun is warmer and shinier, to hear what some psychological experts had to say about the golden spirits dream, only to hear that they had reached the same conclusion as some ancient tales.

There... they say, in dream, in a voice deeper than, as they say, even felines can perceive. There... come in there, they say, as they pass slowly through the deadly walls of Mockaryatis. The city underneath is a barren wasteland, and yet all it does throughout eternity, is consume. It has consumed countless ships, and countless civilizations. They say it's devouring the soul of all living things right as they live, and continue to do so long after their death; as they speak, pray, eat, and of course, sleep.

Of course, and that state of undress of the mind, filled with disembodied voices and strange visions made of the mental scrap material accumulated during day to day life, is the door by which the two worlds communicate, ever so slightly. Because the city of Mockaryatis can only be reached in dreams. Only in your sleep could you pass the deadly traps of the cursed asteroid, and see the decrepit splendor of the city itself.

There they are, spirits, reduced to spectres made of melted gold waltzing slowly and endlessly in silence. Their collective shrieking of despair is too high-pitch to be heard, and yet the dreamer hears them, a fraction of them, through this tiny window into the cosmic maze of life.

Mockaryatis is without a doubt older than the Panther empire. It was already there long before any sort of space conquest. They say it started forming when the animals started looking up at the nightly sky. As soon as their gaze met the flickering beauty of the stars, although there was no telling what would happen (there's still no certainty as to where it's going), something clicked, and spent the following millions of years snowballing into a monstrosity beyond comprehension. Is it evil? yes... it's also entirely natural. They compare it to any other function of the mind, functioning on its own, unchecked by consciousness, probably functioning how it's supposed to function. They assume that if they could just crack the code, and bring this dark world under the light of consciousness, it would start slowly falling to dust. At least, they want to believe. They have had no noticeable success so far.
