I thought the chairs were manufactured so that the people can enjoy the beach with the locals by blending in so they don't kill and eat youΒ Β live, friendly ones are cool too though lol

I like to think that these things are bioengineered furniture. Sure they are alive and free in that area but they were designed to be the perfect living chairs.

This is actually a really cool idea. Like the outside of the bugs exoskeleton feels soft and leathery, so what they are sitting on is sort of cushioned. The bugs are like robots living on certain beaches, subsisting off of thing in the soil or water that other life nearby doesn't particularly need (or just sitting in low activity, thus requiring very little food), and answer to humans need for a chair. Upon request, they make themselves into a chair for the nearest human, and sit there and wait. They are big enough to fend off most predators/not even be a snack too.

Or maybe they let humans sit on their backs while they scavenge the beach because we scare off predators.

According to the artist, they're domesticated. Perhaps the scorpions are trained to do this, or at least tolerate it.

That's animal cruelty, you should be ashamed. I'm joking of course. It is an interesting concept, but humans would have to tame/domesticate a creature like that, and then there's the problem of it's exoskeleton's durability. It's a pretty cool concept, but there are quite a few flaws.
