Description So I have been practicing sketching out Disney characters recently, since I am studying to be an animator, I may aswell try how well I can copy the characters from other people. So indeed, I copied this pose of Stitch.

These were originally done to be sold.

Well your off to a great start! Its REALLY important to be able to follow model ref in animation, (well duh, you know that already). What could be interesting for you to practice, is several different angles of the same character. Then try drawing that character in different poses you make up. Cause when you do inbetween work, you gotta complete the mouvement flawlessly. There I go again! RANTING! This is so strange, i dont usually do this!

(btw, i studied animation in college, im not just speaking out of my ass)

lol no man, ranting is good. I dont get enough good comments and critiques, mainly 'this is awesome' etc So its refreshing to hear opinions to improve from someone who knows what she is talking about. I know I gotta draw alot more, this was really lucking out on getting it on model. I do have to practice drawing these guys alot more, and like you said, in various positions made up by myself, but still retaining the look of the character. I dont do that enough, only on character design projects in uni do i really have draw the same character in tens of different poses. Thanks though

lucking out usually makes for awesome portfolio pieces No kidding, my skills arent constant yet, so lucking out is still very practicle to add good work to ones gallery.

AngelCrusher In reply to yorkey-sa [2007-09-02 18:07:26 +0000 UTC]

yeh. if people ask to colour something first and as long as they credit me with a link to my page, its fine.

Ah nice job with the Disney-esk touch :> Yes I guess all inspiring animators should doodle more stuff from the Disney realm even if they have ditched 2D for 3D lately Anyhow good job on Stitch here

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to ZoDy [2007-08-16 19:03:15 +0000 UTC]

they still prefer 3d animators who can actually draw though, and often made to do life drawing classes. But yeh, gotta draw like disney ad get used to those level of detail characters if i am ever going to get better at animating. I would love to do more 3d animation though. I did one before and it was fun. All i need is a model/rig and a quick tutorial on how to use the program and i'll have ago. it feels like you're playing a game when animating.

I find 3D Animation too much like advance puppetry XD I don't find enough life in it sucks how its kind of killed off 2D Films now I enjoyed going to the cinema's and watching 2D Films, thats why I was thankful of the Simpsons movie lately wonder if they'll start making a come back now doubt it tough XD;

we'll see what the frog princess does from disney...but if it bombs, thats it for 2D. if disney cant do it, no one can. 3d animation is getting much better recently, more stretchy and like 2D...but most times its too rigid, or they do it way too much.

Meh Idunno XD I find 3D PRetty limited, when 2D Is limited by your imagination I mean look at all those bizzare sequences in that Pink Flloyd movie 'The Wall' D: And yeah I heard of that movie, I hope it does all right Cus if 2D dies out then I quit Art

yeh man, thats why i love 2d. I can literally pick up my pencil now and animate anything i wanted to here and now for like an hour, and have an animation done. No rigging, model building or anything. If I wanted to animate an elephant with the face of jim carrey eating a cactus, then crapping out needles at a bunney, i could do it. Its just finding the time to do these wacky things. With 3D, they cant do anything unless its made for them....but they usually download their models. cheats.
