On a hot day this summer, I was looking for shade under the sheltering roofs on a beach in Italy. At the same time of day, each of the days I sat there, a group of playful boys showed up at their playground to show off their smarts.The first minutes of every day, they would talk more quiet as they noticed I was thereβ¦againβ¦But after a short time they were all caught up in their roles around the table, and I would be pleasantly ignored and able to study the intensity and joy this scene of live so generously displayed for me.

I wish the technical quality had been better, but the sweet feeling this pictures still gives me, compensate plenty to satisfy me.

Let me put it this way; if it had been strip poker they were playing, i wouldnt have had much time for this shot; they all showed up in their bathing custume, so it would have been an adult category real fast- not much to loose!

Technical quality, shmechnical quality. It's all about emotion, and there's some great stuff here. I love this perspective. I feel very much the bystander here. Italy is wonderful. i wouldn't be able to say... i have a camera, and have a few pictures, but i couldn't see myself posting them. i guess its an artists fear or something, although i cnat say im an artist yet. hehe

capturing a time, a moment, an emotion.....a life
you do these things so well, anna....and you have done them all in this one photo
in Italia it is cards....in South Texas it is dominoes...I remember as a young man watching old farts play dominoes from dawn to dusk, thinking what a sad end to their lives these men have been dealt; however, as old fartdom bears down on me with the speed of a freight train, the simple pleasures so obvious then, and in your photo now, make it seem not nearly so bad.

Like these, men in my town have been honoured with chess tables and a park. Talk about having responsabilities now.

Public places to share the souls talking to it self, a place to be human; in where we are different from all other species; to pass experiences on/ thoughts on to each other- is done in no better atmosphere than while playing.
I for one think, that it is the responsibility of all, to make sure we at least have places for it. A park in it self is a wonderful place for that, with or without chesstables.

there's a card game that the men in Spanish villages play, where the cards are slapped down on the table quite violently ..
