Description I was unhappy with the way this guy looked in the base I sculpted him into, so I rehashed it into this bust. I was really inspired by Kevin Crossleys work here.

I only have maybe an hour or 2 to smooth out the flames on his head/up his neck. Very soon I'll have a update of this finished with paint.

I still need to create a base for it.
-Super Sculpey
-7" tall without base. The opening of his mouth is 2.25" from top to bottom.

About how long do you spend on these sculptures? The insane amount of details seems like it would take forever!

Depending on the size and amount of detail put in at the end. Busts are much quicker than full sized statues. I worked on this one at the same time as a few other sculpts, I believe this one took me a month (designing and sculpting).

This is INSANE.

But how did you manage to get that skinny neck to support the weight of the head?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AntWatkins In reply to WretchedSpawn2012 [2012-05-19 15:17:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I use an armature wire, much like a skeleton. I build the clay over the wire, and it keeps the forms.

Freaking fantastic dude, the detail is mind boggling! Can I ask what kind of tools you use? Do you use rubber tipped shapers?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

AntWatkins In reply to NoahW [2011-02-20 21:09:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!!
Although I have quite a few tools that I have used for different things, I mainly use a couple different tiny loop tools, a spatula like tool, a fine needle tip and a pen tip. I rarely use the rubber shapers...

Really? I just started trying to do some serious sculpting and I love them. I'm sure you get this a lot but do you have any beginner tips? I'd like to start making surreal sculptures like my drawings
