Pain shot threw my body and drew my hand back, the burning pulsing sensation coming in waves. There were no marks on my hand but the pain lingered. I hadn't touched THAT many humans but this had never happened. I'd never felt something like this before. He hadn't moved and it didn't seem that the same thing I was experiencing had been a shared moment. The faint glow of morning was chasing away the darkness of the night and he was beginning to stir, sure signs that he was regaining conciseness. As I slipped back into the forest I took a moment to steal one final glace at him and then at the receding pain in my hand before letting the forest reclaim my body hiding myself in its leafy depths.
