Description A quick piece of Myst fanart. This is Cyan, the character I always imagine when I'm playing a Myst game. For the first time in color! Unfortunately he looks a little older than usual here. Oh well, it was a doodle.

Ah, Achenar. Why did we bring him the blue pages, anyway? You'd think one Age would have been enough to convince us that red was the way to go!

This was a rather cathartic picture to draw...

Oh, this isn't meant to be the first time he sees Achenar. It's supposed to be after he's visited an Age and seen Achenar's room. It really should have made us all second-guess this guy.

I too wanted to converse with both Mr. Blue and Mr. Red pages at times.

You know, even though we shouldn't trust either brother, when I first played Myst, I planned to free Siruis at the end (however you spell it), because there was nothing that proved he was evil. I thought Achenar was the bad guy. The message in the Channelwood age didn't change my mind, because the acting was so bad i couldnt tell if the guy in the messager was Sirius or not.

However i never finished the game because of that puzzle in the Stoneship age.

"How was I supposed to know there was a secret tunnel? the book never hinted about it!"

I was actually leaning toward Achenar because it seemed too obvious to go with Sirrus. Finding vials and syringes in Sirrus' rooms led my to believe that he had poisoned his brother and made him go insane or something. Cause I was fairly young and didn't automatically think he was just a drug addict. Anyway, I was rather relieved when presented with a third option at the end.

It's a pity you never finished Myst! Did you play any of the other games in the series? You'd probably like Exile, it seems to be a universal favorite.

Sadly, no, I did not play any other games in the series. I only had Myst. though, when the 3DS remake comes out, I may want to get it.

Oh yeah. It gave you just enough to go on so that you could tell you were looking for a red or blue page. I've often thought about that, how the "mission" in Myst was so vague and simple, yet was exactly the right amount of purpose to get you moving and exploring the Ages without just feeling like you were wandering aimlessly.

Conversely, URU makes me feel like I'm wandering aimlessly.

If you had the opportunity to go to any age you wish, what it would be? I would go to either Spire or Edanna although I wouldn't mind to go to Haven and try and strike a conversation with the Mangrees.

Right. That ball ride in Amateria is that cool, unless someone happened to reset the dials. BTW, I think ShadyParadox's Let's Play of Myst Exile is really cool. I recommend that you go and take a look.

Seriously. Going into his rooms to get the pages always freaked me out, especially in Stoneship. Rose morphing into a human skull = nightmares for impressionable younglings. The music in his rooms didn’t help either. Dude was seriously whacked. Nice to know he mellowed out in Revelation. Not that Sirrus was much better though… Nice profile BTW.

Thanks! Yeah, I was always paranoid to go the wrong way in the hallway on Mechanical Age, and I always did.

I agree, Haven was really good for Achenar. Nice to see a bit of redemption for the guy in the end.

"Gordon, bring me the blue pages!" That's what I'd like to do with a Myst mod I've planned to make: It takes place on an Earth version of MYST Island, which features a blue book prop in the library, and later a TV has Dr. Breen flickering on it, saying that line.

Ah. When I first played Myst on my own (I'd be about... 10 or 11...) I gave Sirrus pages. Firstly because, just by looking at Achenar's rooms in the Ages, I could tell that Mr. Blue Pages had a bad vibe about him. Seriousely, the guy is a blood-thirsty sadist and have you seen his cache in the Mechanical Age? I did not want a torture-hungry madman running free on an island that was currently empty, save for myself.

It doesn't seem like you've tried the red pages yet, so I won't say how Sirrus turned out.

Artoveli In reply to Lightnings-Shadow [2008-10-16 21:22:19 +0000 UTC]

Me? Oh man, I'm an ollld hand at Myst. I know how Sirrus' ending goes...

Actually I was sort of hesitant to give Sirrus the pages when I played it the first time too, because it seemed too obvious. And then you start finding vials and syringes in Sirrus' drawers, so I wondered if perhaps he hadn't been the one who'd caused his brother to go insane...

I know better now of course.

Yeah, if the throne and portrait in Mechanical don't send up a major red flag, the fact that he has every freaking drug on the black market in his bedroom drawer will...

Dearing [2007-10-11 08:20:43 +0000 UTC]

I always brought Achenar blue pages because I thought he was funny..in a insane kind of way.
I never did the bad endings, but I watched them after I'd finished the game. I dunno, I just found it funny every time he ripped out the page and then dropped it with a "Whoops!" then breaking into a fit of giggles. He was a nutcase in the Myst, but he seemed just angry in Revelation...then mellow. I actually like Revelation. I found it to be incredibly realistic. If they ever decided to bring out all the games with the same graphics as that, I would so buy that!
I'm sorry, I'm rambling and I haven't even said anything about the picture. Very nice. I always saw Cyan wearing brown though. Dunno why.
Keep it up.

Cyan considered for a few moments, then reached over and closed the book. "On second thought, I don't even want to know."

You're back! I was on your main page just yesterday, wondering when you'd be coming back I need more encouragement to draw Cyan! I'm working on a fairly large Cyan-themed project (not really that large, but larger than a picture I guess).

Myst fanart, w00t! Ah, now you've got me feeling all nostalgic for the first game! Achenar's a sneaky bastard, eh? He got me in Myst-- I brought back all of his pages and got trapped in that book. *LOL* I'm dying to go back and replay the first two games-- I cheated quite a bit on them, and now I'd love to replay them on my own. Plus, I think I'd appreciate them more, now that I'm a few years older.

I'm currently stuck in Revelation-- I don't suppose you could give me a hint or two? ^_^ I'm on Haven, at the sound puzzle thing in the tower on the far side of the lagoon. The one with the monkeys sitting in a circle of trees and the lizard-beast standing below them. I can get the monkeys to react when I turn the wheels to produce certain sound patterns, but nothing significant has happened so far. I don't want explicit answers, but a subtle nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated.
