Description "The name's Ulliver."
"Gulliver?"
"Ulliver."
"Oliver?"
"No, Ulliver!"

Poor Ulliver. I want to rewrite Alice in Wonderland with this guy in the title role. There would be some major divergences of plot (as far as plot goes in that story anyway). For one thing, I think he'd hold on to the baby-turned-pig out of some sense of horrified responsibility... and I don't think he'd take those bits of mushroom from the drugged out caterpillar, which would really put him in trouble at the end...

I'd illustrate it with watercolor/black ink drawings like this, cause these are funnn!

Thank you! And yes I am, I really have no special pens (though I'd love to get my hands on some...).

Oh No!
Wonderland has claimed another victim! however, this should be interesting. (I've looked at this before, but I guess it didn't register until now)

I don't know about Ulliver, since the plot is already there it might be tough to write it for a month... but of course we'll see.

Of course. Anyway, I believe badgie concetrates essentially on past works.

I don't know the character, but it sounds like it would make a good story. I will read it if you write it.

Haha! This sounds like a great idea (especially regarding his keeping the baby-turned-pig. That's one of my favorite parts of Alice!)!

Interestingly, though, I had to think about the Gulliver reference, as in my brain, his name sounded like "Ooliver."

I figured that little exchange was also a good way of establishing the correct pronunciation.

Thanks! I think that having to carry/protect a disgruntled piglet with him everywhere would certainly be a strange twist for the story.

AdisCrow [2009-02-10 22:35:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes! Yesyesyesyes you should! And judging from the description, I already love this guy (especially if he keeps the baby--that was one part of the book that really made me hate Alice).

Artoveli In reply to AdisCrow [2009-02-10 22:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha ha! I just remember all these terrible dreams I've had where I was trying to protect my cat or a baby or something and it kept turning into frailer and frailer things, like a cooked chicken, or a piece of wet toilet paper... those dreams were so frustrating! The whole baby-pig thing strikes a bit of a chord with me as a result.

JakeHowler [2009-02-10 12:49:09 +0000 UTC]

now THAT will be awesome! If you rewrite that the way I think you'll do (with your incredible sense of humor), that will probably be one of my favorite stories!

I can't even imagine what will happen when he meets the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. Poor Ulliver, he'll never be sane again...

Artoveli In reply to JakeHowler [2009-02-10 18:57:02 +0000 UTC]

I was always a little let-down by Alice's responses to some of the things that happened, especially in the Disney movie... she seemed like such a wet blanket in that! She's much better in the book, more like a little kid, but I still think it would be nifty to get a new perspective.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JakeHowler In reply to Artoveli [2009-02-10 22:05:12 +0000 UTC]

I think Disney's movie ruined the book completely! They removed a lot of passages (like the Baby-turned-pig and the gryphon) and altered dialogs. Tim Burton is making a movie based on Alice, I hope he does a good job as usual.

As for your idea, I agree that a new approach to the plot would be interesting. Alice (even in the book) seems a little dumb many times during her conversations.

Artoveli In reply to JakeHowler [2009-02-10 22:09:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm rather excited about the Burton movie too. Though at first I had heard that it was going to be in the style of Corpse Bride, which was ten thousand times more awesome. Oh well.

JakeHowler In reply to Artoveli [2009-02-11 13:01:17 +0000 UTC]

I think the movie will be great, if Tim applies his usual dark mood in it!

Good luck with your story!
