"Always bring the right weapon to a duel. Also, there's no such thing as a fair fight."

The two mares continued their escalating fight until Princess Celestia was forced to intervene; due to one of the pair somehow calling in a Balefire Bomb strike.

How very befitting of a classy lady like Rarity. The coloring is so well done, the background is colorful but subtle enough that it doesn't overshadow the subject. Rarity's costume is something I'd expect of her as well, the reds and blues go very well together, and the outfit's design is very fancy.

Would this sort of attire be seen in Russia in the 17th Century?

No, Russians began to wear European suits only in the early 18th century, before it was completely different from something like this.

Yes. In Russia in the 17th Century was enough west-europeans. You may read a diary byΒ Patrick Leopold Gordon of Auchleuchries. He was lived in 1635 for 1699 years and bigger part in Russia. This book is a famous historical source about Russia that times. Β

Seems more closely inspired by the style of 17th-century French attire popularized by The Three Musketeers. Admittedly, I'm not sure how closely French costume of the time resembled that of the Russians, so you may well be correct.

Exactly!Β I first of all was focused on something like the Three Musketeers, when I made this picture.Β And the traditional Russian costume in the early 17th century was completely different.

Enough close for ponyfication-type picture to make both of you correct. Russia was not very far from Europe in style of costume that times. But actually Russia's society "crush" in everything french is a bit later fact. More like end of XVIII - start of XIX century.
