First Saturday Stream after BronyCon. There was a lack of Applejack throughout those weeks, so I had to fix that.Why not throw in an environment as well, right?! Actually kinda interesting doing this pony style with a more elaborate environment. Mostly I kept the backgrounds simple and blurred in a portrait mode with this pony style.
Didn't want to do basic mountains so I went with fjord instead! I guess could also have gone for "gorge" or "valley". Close enough. Fjord also just sounds fancier I think.
Had to puzzle a bit on what my steps would be, combining the different layers, which I think turned out ok. Since I paint environments different than ponies. I prefer these larger scale landscapes directly in colour. (Easier to add all the tiny variations)

Ooh, very happy to hear that the feelings got captured, from someone who has been to Scandinavian mountains.
I'm glad about that since I haven't been to any mountainous areas myself, but their majesty has still captured my interest for paintings.

This is a landscape (fjord) piece with a pony (MLP:FIM-Applejack). The orange and yellow colored pony in the foreground is in contrast to the blue and green midground, this is further enhanced by the light blue and white background. The foreground, midground, and background are represented by the vastly different sizes of the pony to the craggy peaks behind her, this give the viewer a sense of size, scale, and scope. The blurry background and varying brush strokes reminds me of impressionism, however, the pony and foreground is far too clean and sharp for that style. The pony's expression is that of a smile, giving the viewer a feeling of adventure, excitement, and exploration.

The landscape works really well with her. Is the background based on somewhere in real life? Because it reminds me of the typical northern Norway scenery.

I didn't base it on any location in particular, but more on Fjords and similar locations in general, which may be why it feels like a Norway scenery

Ah I thought it was neat that it reminded me of a painting by a norwegian painter called Hans Gude. Though I see now that they aren't that simaler. I think it's a really good picture. Did you know that the fjord areas of Norway are known for their apples?

This is just gorgeous. I wish we saw more of this side from Apple Jack, being wanderlust or just generally going off for long hikes with her sister and having mini-adventures. Really yummy colours and wow, those textures! The water looks on the opaque side, kinda looks like it's been done with gouache (on purpose?) Would like to have seen a touch translucence, but doesn't really matter as the focus is on Apple Jack gazing across the fjord.
