Description I made a lot of different fantasy/sci-fi weapons in the late nineties and they were a quite poor shape in nowadays, so i take them to my workshop and use few months in last winter and spring for making them look much better.

That simple and shiny knuckle-duster is one of my oldest weapons and made it probably in 1994-1995 etc. Katar and those two other knuckle-dusters are made originally in year 1999 and now i only made some simple modifications, like better looking handles.

Katar is really very old push-dagger weapon type from india, but that bird shaped fantasy katar is totally new & unique idea and i only take one simple steel blade from one old weapon project, and weld together a lot of different steel bits to make it look more like a rooster head. (For example that eye is taken from old ball bearings.) It's now one of my most favourite weapons.

Did you make them on your own

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Astalo In reply to SkudasLazepe2012 [2013-10-14 22:25:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes of course. It's illegal to sell knuckle dusters in Finland, so only way for getting more exotic edged weapons is making them on your own..

If you didn't already knew, the design with a blade attached on the side of a knuckleduster were actually used in the trench warfare of World War I. Though as far as I recall tha blade were sharp on the backside(towards the user), for killing people from behind. They were however, not at all as well crafted, but rather stamped out of a metal sheet for cost-effectiveness.

Astalo In reply to Noctiped [2012-01-09 21:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.. WW1 trench-knifes made that style quite popular, but i have seen also over 100 years older weapon designs like that. For example before and after the American civil war there was huge variety of weird weapon combinations where they mixed knifes, knuckledusters and sometimes also small firearms together.

Probably some kind of self defence things for street hustlers, old west cardsharps/gamblers and other guys like that back in the more "wilder times".

the ?rooster/chicken? katar is great, is it sharpened on the bottom side?

Thanks for the fave and comments. It's quite sharp, but not like razors, because i don't want to cut myself when i show it to people.

You've done an excellent job here at embellishing the katars without making them ridiculous. While ornate, they could have easily seen use, I'm impressed.

Functionality is always very important thing to me and that's way i don't like "extravagant fantasy designs" very much and i try usually to find some line between functionality and stylish appearances etc.

I have many, many questions about construction, but I think I can figure out most by asking if you do more forge or arc welding on a project like this?
