I used to find these very often in the green casings of hazelnuts (when I picked the hazelnuts from the tree) - seems they like the moisture there. They always freaked me out because of those large claws in the back. Indeed, that fear is not unjustified, because they can pinch you quite hard. Nothing too terrible, though. Maybe about on par with an ant bite, I'd say.

There is a old myth here that says they crawl into your ear and lay eggs while you sleep. Not a very nice thing to do.
