this is turning quite good.I do recommend that you finish this work.the eye are turning quite good....there not perfect but really good improvement from the others.I can see you put a lot of time into this part only. That's what you need to do, patient is shown here.Doesn't matter if the proportions is a little off.Just keep practicing and once you get comfortable you'll be more motivated to create bigger works at better details.
a tip for making the shading smoother but it does take a lot of time.
try to fill out the white tiny spot between the graphite and the paper.not sure if you understand what I mean.let me know
also use brushes like the H.J Domed Dry Stipple, rubber erasers, eraser stick tuff stuff, Qtips, tissue but I don't use that but might be something to try.
the rubber eraser is a adjustable at any size, even as pointy as you want.Used that for adjusting the shading on the cheeks, nose, the forehead and the chin.very useful for lighting in the eye's and lips specially when there's really small points of light.if at some point this rubber eraser is not working for you use the eraser stick tuff stuff.this eraser stick [link]
.you can sharpen it in a pointy shape by erasing it on a blank paper like a pencil sharpener .once this is done.use that to make the white strip of blond/white hair or use it for small dots of light.
pencil grade from H6 to B8.
lets put this basic....generally use H2 for lighter shades, B2 for mid tones and B8 for darkest part of the drawing.3 pencil can do a good average drawing. You need also mechanical pencil from 0.3 mm , 0.5, 0.7.
0.3 with HB or B if you like, is use for the thinner lines and small details and chopping the light inside the eye's pupil to make things sharper.also sharping the outer outline of light.
0.5 with a grade H is use for adjusting shading and if the 0.3 mm doesn't work for the things you want. 0.5 can help
0.7 mm with H4 is used for adjusting lighter shades.its also used for smudging the darker graphite shades so that the white spot between the graphite and paper is filled but you can use 0.3mm or 0.5 mm if the 0.7 mm is not working for you.
even if you use Qtips or brushes or tissues, they leave also some white spot and they don't fill all the empty spot.Blend after the basic shading is drawn and then readjust the shading with the pencils.every time you blend the shading create different shade spot and patches and this needs to be adjusted with the pencils so that it become a smooth gradient shade.
rulers and grid for drawing the proportions will help you get things done quite accurate.Practice with that and eventually you'll somewhat pick up how things should look.its like everything connects in a logical way.
let me know if this work for you and feel free to ask any questions

thanks and np.glad it helps
ya that's what I mean.these little "pores" can be filled but can't be fully filled with blender tools.
"no progressive junction in your shades"do you mean the shading on the edge of the forehead left side?what pencil grade was used here?when you have a shading not fully gradient with the other shading tone, use a lighter grade pencil to smudge the edge of that shading tone junction.what I see here is, you could use a H4 or H2 and somehow smudge the edge between them and also use some q-tips the blend it.another thing i forgot is, keep all you used Q-tips with darker and lighter graphite as they would help you when you can't get some shades right.used them them also to fix junctions between shades.
also get yourself 1/2 H.J domed dry stipple brush.this will help you drastically for shading big areas of the skin.its about 4$
which paper do you use?
the eye's shades are pretty fine and the shade blends in with the skin fine.

Yes, that´s exactly what I mean!
I´m not sure... I guess I used B and 2B...
Ah, good idea! I´ll try to fix that.
Hmm I searched for this brush but it seems that it´s not available here in Germany.
What´s so special about this brush? Because I use a 'normal' one at the moment.
I tried a lot of different papers but right now I´m using 'Canson Bristol' with an extra smooth surface.

do you have any picture of your brush so that I see what it looks.
is it a painting or the brush with a harder brush tip because mine has the brush that is harder then the normal painting brushes.

My brush looks kinda like this one here:

Mmh I guess it´s a brush for normal paintings, so it´s tip is not really hard.

Thank you very much!
Haha I worked on her eyes a lot because I also thought they were kind of "dead".
I´m glad you like this WIP!

you're making progress, but i think, you should make eye shading a bit smoother, going from dark into the light tone. also add some shading on the skin around the eye, under the brow, so it would have some depth and different layers.

Thanks for your comment!
You think the right eye looks dead? (I didn´t really work on the left eye so...)
Hm yeah that could be true.
I´ll work on it and try to change it! Thanks.
