The incongruity is interesting. Makes for a great shot.

nice. so much detail in something simple. the thing with this, i noticed the edges of the frame on the left and right sides. maybe's just a personal nikpik of mine, but i'd made full widescreen, and leave only the top and bottom black bars for a streamline composition. but that's just me. you really can't notice the frames when distracted by the awesome content in it.

This is a really cool shot. And knowing how superstitious Japanese can be about these things really makes it interesting.

It shows you my great reference point of Japanese culture, but this immediately made me think of "Spirited Away", the room with the spidery man and all the files along the wall. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing (and no, I'm not anime geek, I had to be lured into watching it in the first place).
But it is so heavily repetitious, and then the one falling board. Not really about to hit the ground (I see the nail there) but it gives that impression, and I love that.

The texture in this photo is amazing. I felt if I had a print, I could rub my fingers against the print and feel wood.
After that, I just love how you use the DOF to maintain focus on the subject of the photograph.
Good STuff Bill

Excellent. Thanks for the verification. I thought about asking you and A, but you came through before I had a chance.
Thank you, my friend.

I'm not positive.
~fabemiko-stock believes that they are boards that are posted when someone makes a donation to the temple.
That's the best explanation I can get.

My pleasure, Shimon.
I'm still working on getting to your latest journal entry. I scanned it quickly the other day, but couldn't give it the attention it deserves (and the learning I desire).

no problem... after all, you're flat out. and we shouldn't look at these mutual visits as an obligation, but rather as an opportunity... and there's just so many opportunities that we have room for. were it up to me, we would meet opposite those prayer planks for a moment as we both adjust our eyes... though i, as a priest, am traditionally prohibited from wandering around graveyards... though once there was an exception, and with a role to perform, i found myself at the edge of eternity. and there, would you believe it, balanced as i was between blunt shock of the children of the dead, and the eternal dissolution of time itself... i took a black and white picture which i keep in my personal files to this day. maybe i'll share it with you one day

Oh no, sir. It's not an obligation. If you knew me better, you'd know that I actually resist external obligations, sometimes violently. I do things because I want to; because they are the right thing to do; because I'll learn something from them; because I'll become a better person by doing them.
And your journals definitely fit into the last two categories.
If you can find it within yourself to share the image, if it fulfills a need to expose it, then I'd love to see it.
And one day, whether it be here or hereafter, we will meet across those prayer planks.

well, what attracted me to you in the first place was the depth of your eyes, but the more i get to know you, the more i enjoy it. your words cut to the essence, god bless you! and I will share that image with you.

But they may not. There were random holes throughout the wall, so some must have fallen.

fascinating! it would be interesting to know more about this, since it seems to be something unique to the Japanese culture. But the shot is very cool.
