Craft foam is a cosplayer's dream. Cheap, versatile, and effective, there are limitless possibilities to its uses.

My greatest recommendation is to DO RESEARCH. There are so many different ways to prime, paint, weather, and seal your final product. Look up many tutorials and decide which way is best for you.

Some other tips:
1. To avoid doing many coats of mod podge to prime and harden it, you can just do two coats of Gesso. You can strengthen it by hot-gluing 16-gauge wire along the edges on the back. There's a tutorial here for that: onedelightfulday.wordpress.com…

2. Some weathering techniques:
-'Weathering' refers to places on armor and weapons that often fade or get dirty with wear or age.

-For light weathering follow this tutorial: fav.me/d5kakwu

-For heavy weathering, consider putting heavy gashes into the foam before priming it. Then, put coats of various acrylic colors on it from dark to light. Take an adhesive such as sandpaper to scrape down to the darker colors in select areas.
