Description
I wanted to draw something related to winter somehow, and thought it would be a nice opportunity to introduce another one of my OCs.Her name's Henrietta and she can be quite an oportunistic person, having grown up in a place where anyone of humble origins need to be twice as smart and charming to achieve status, but in turn she's also very passionate about animals, caring for them and considering them her only friends in a way.
but yes I totally had ulterior motives bc I just wanted to draw more pretty dresses

She rises from darkness toward the light within her. Does she create the bird? Or does the bird create her? Or do they imagine each other? Questions which popped into my head while viewing your work. The changing shades of color suggest emergence. Beautiful work!

Whoa, that is such an interesting analysis! I think you went even deeper than I was envisioning while painting it and that makes me so happy.
There's definitely a theme of emergence for the character, as she is quite literally one of the only survivors from a masacre. Her connection with the animals (or the bird here) is what she feels is her only true allyship, besides hinting at something that's been lying dormant inside her for long. So she isn't quite human either, so to speak.

Really love the composition of this piece. The white above contrasts with the bottom part of her dress which is darker and how it gets whiter near the bottom, I really enjoy those parts. I get kind of a desolate feel from this image but she is in the center of it all. I love how whimsical she looks, and yet how she is attached to life with the right and lively bird on her hand. Theres seems to be a connection between them. The circle behind her is also really cool and kind of gives her a bit of a status
Overall, really loving it. The overall composition is so beautiful. And hair looks gorgeous (lol oops, i'm still in my painting analysis mode from class)

Don't apologize, this comment made my day!! And you somehow nailed what I was trying to convey, and even her personality although I didn't say much on the description. You were also the first to comment on the meaning of the circle behind her, but you nailed that as well!!
Henrietta is the illegitimate child of a noble (but was treated to all the luxuries of court) and through drastic circumstances on the story she ended up losing everything and had to become a servant. So I would say desolation really is a big part of her story, as well as her connection with animals (don't want to say too much, but she does have a link with them outside of just friendship or sympathy). Thanks again for this considerate and kind comment, it really made me feel appreciated and grateful

This is such a beautiful, elegant image! I love the woven frame of leaves behind her head- very art nouveau! And the glacial colour of her gown is simply exquisite! I like the added detail of the bird too- such a lovely idea! I look forward to learning more about Henrietta in the future.Β
