This is me bucking a trend. Cos it seems the only time Derpy isn't obsessing over muffins, she's delivering letters or adventuring with the good Doctor. I don't dislike people for doing it, I just feel there needs to be a bit more variety.Plus, she only said "Muffins" once

It isn't the amount of times she said muffins, but the sheer, unmitigated passion that forced the words from her mouth.
That and what tiny canon fragments there are of her character have been stretched and steamrolled prety damn far.

This is true. It's understandable (and to the fandom's credit, it came up with her being a delivery pony, and the doctor's wife), but it's still a bit annoying when she goes gaga over the mention of the word.

Depends on the fic, Of Mares and Magic did her character very well...until the author drove a knife into the fic's heart in chapter eleven, then twisted it in the apology epilogue.

Sometimes she's taking care of Dinky when she's not Obsessing over muffins. I do agree that the muffins thing has probably been overdone, and I prefer pictures of her with Dinky.

And, ''favorite'' doesn't mean ''absolute exclusive'', mind you...
She can like other things, while still ''prefering'' a good and warm muffin over other things, when the occasion present itself.
(Plus, it's the adorable 'nickname' of her equaly adorable fan-made-given daughter, Dinky.

But when was the last time you saw her eating something that wasn't muffins?
Point is, fans pounced on her one spoken word, deciding for her that muffins were her favourite, and then that was it. It's practically considered to be out-of-character for her to be eating something other than muffins.
Really, I'm just tired of it. I don't dislike people for doing muffin pictures, but it's just become a worn out joke for me. I feel the same way about "20% cooler" and "10 seconds flat"

It's much more complexe than that.
The best way to -see- Ditzy's 'muffins' is as an emblematic item for her, not as mandatory object to be with her at all time.
By this, I mean that it's for her, what books are for Twilight. Books don't define Twilight, as muffins don't define Ditzy, BUT! they are items that people and fans WILL associate with them, and so they will tend to be close to them.
Really, the only difference between (some exemples) Twilight-Books / Luna-Moon / Celestia-Sun... is that Ditzy and her muffins are both fan-created, given to her rather than pre-owned like for Twilight-Books.
Variety is good, yes, but muffins will always be the (food)emblem of Ditzy.
