Whenever the gravity powers are used, the user becomes a back and white chess board. Even if out of costume, the skin will have that effect.

Do you mean jarring because I included his real self or because of the transparency?
As I am sure you suspect, the reason I incuded real Frank is because, in some adventures, he would only be with the other kids via his dreamself. Also, I did not know how I would make the transparency work at first (hadn't thought of the checkered BG), so I had part of real Frank be seen through the dream one. I guess it is weird to look at him twice in his area of the pic.
Even though my fave is Jack and I like how he turned out, I think the colors (some yellow energy effect) on Katie make her stand out. Did your daughter approve of her design here?
And I am sure you would do an awesome job. Especially if you tried realistic style. That would be very interesting to see.

actually, the transparency is perfect....it's the composition of the piece including the real self that's jarring while everyone else are simple closeups, fill the frame kind of pics, except him. so it kinda (for me anyway) whacks it out of balance. but like i said, I understood what you were trying to do, and that's the ONLY thing that bothers me. everything is done really well!! definitely love it
and yes, i love how you did katie - the effect is perfect for her!
I have to show my daughter tomorrow, i work nights and she actually started school full time this year so i only really get to spend quality time with her on weekends. of course, now it's summer, we'll get more time with each other
Hmm....thats an interesting idea....if i have time, i might have to try that, lol

Oh, I see now what you meant. I think I could have left more of him visible at the bottom and he could be waving "hello" with his right hand to use the space close to the center.
It's bad that you cannot be with her more time, but I guess that makes weekends and vacations something to be excited about.
And it's great that I managed to make you think about that pic. I hope you do get the time.

Great! It is always nice to hear from the youngest critics, since they pull no punches. And it is also nice to get such a good review from one of them, especially if she is a fan of the source material.
And it seems we agreed on the best two. It is only natural that I would put effort on Jack, but even I thought Katie had the best final results in this pic. Good to see she thought that, too.
I don't know what Epic is. I suppose it is a new movie (been kind of disconnected from this summer's movies; have had two hard months at work). But it sounds like fun, so congrats to both of you.
And I'll be expecting that pic, whenever you have the time.

Well, you do know how to bring out their personalities.
It's actually refreshing to see them being drawn.

Even though they are complex characters, they do have some defining characteristics that can be portrayed in a pic.
And more people should be drawing them, I think.

No, they don't.
I wish more people were exposed to the kids from this era.
Also, about classics, as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Nunzio and Christina's New Mutants, I am currently coloring a piece I hope you will like. Expect it sometime this/next week.

OOh, I'll keep an eye out for that.
And as for the Pack, I confess I did enjoy the more recent Gurihiru Power Pack stories

As did I. I loved them.
But as stand-alone entertainment. Like watching an episode of Looney Tunes.
They cannot compare to the original series. But it does not try to, so it is easy to think of them as totally different things.

You know I love them!
This is my favorite piece of fan art I have made of them so far.
And I wanted it to be about the team, not so Jack-centric as I tend to go.
